Is it safe to walk my vaccinated dog if new puppy has one parvo shot?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 50 lbs

If we adopt an 8 week old puppy that has only had one parvo shot, is it safe to walk our other, older, fully vaccinated dog around the neighborhood?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Moseley. It is safe to walk her around the neighborhood, but not the puppy. She will be protected and if she is kept away from other dogs, it's not likely she will bring anything back to the home that could infected the puppy. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. It is still possible for Moana to get Parvo regardless of the current vaccines. She is not fully vaccinated and is at the age where she is susceptible the most to the parvo virus. If she is showing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal pain, etc. then I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. My puppy passed from Parvo and now my lawn is contaminated. If I get a new puppy and it has received all the required shots, will the puppy be safe on my lawn?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While not guaranteed that your pup will not get Parvo if fully vaccinated, it is not likely. It should be safe to have your pup all around the house as long as the pup is fully vaccinated. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes! It is fine to walk Milo in non-contaminated areas. Park sidewalks and through the neighborhood is fine. Just not dog parks until 2 weeks after her final vaccine. There is a fine line between socialization and contracting infectious disease. She will be fine. Have a great day!

Our puppy just got his second Parvo shot. Is it safe to take him outside on walks now?
As long as your puppy stays current on his [vaccination series](https://www.petcoach.co/article/vaccination-recommendations-for-puppies-puppy-shots) (boosters every 3-4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age), he can certainly go on walks in your neighborhood. In fact, it's very important to get him out and about at this age since the critical [socialization](https://www.petcoach.co/article/socialization-of-your-puppy) period for dogs last from 6 to 16 weeks of age - so he needs to be out seeing the world, the sooner the better. I would recommend avoiding [dog parks](https://www.petcoach.co/article/dog-parks-fun-and-games) and other busy areas where large numbers of unknown dogs have been, but it should be fine to walk him in quieter areas.

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. The first two doses of parvo vaccine were given correctly but the third one was given way too late. It would be safer to give Mocha another dose of parvo vaccine, about 3-4 weeks after the one she just had. That will make sure that she is fully protected and she is not any danger for the new puppy.

My two dogs got infected with parvo three months back and they successfully got treated. My doubt is if I can take them out for walks now coz one of my dogs has not passed stool since three days and I think a walk could help her pass stool

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I think there is a fine line between socialization and trying to protect them from infectious diseases. I think it is fine to walk not fully vaccinated puppies on sidewalks, roads and parks that don't have a lot of dog traffic. No dog parks or doggie day care. Only allow play with dogs that are fully vaccinated and not sick. I just tell owners to be smart about it! I hope this helps!

I have a 1yr old dog whom has been vaccinated, im also getting a pup thats only 4wks old and too young to vaccinate, can my 1yr old carry the parvo ect virus and give it to mu unvacd pup??????
Hello, while we can see carrier states with Parvo, generally this is from naturally infected dogs that have survived the virus. It is extremely unlikely that a vaccinated dog will be a carrier of Parvovirus. I think your new puppy will be perfectly safe, as long as you protect the puppy from going anywhere other than your home & yard until he is fully vaccinated at 4 months of age. I am currently in the process of adopting 2 boxer puppies. I am currently concerned about my puppies catching parvo from my other dogs. I have a couple other dogs that are have been vaccinated but am worried about a change of my puppy getting parvo.
If your adult dogs are vaccinated and the puppies have started their vaccination series there is minimal risk of getting parvovirus from your dogs. Keeping your puppies away from other outside dogs is recommended until two weeks after their last puppy vaccination. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for your puppies.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! There is a fine line between being too over protective and not socializing the puppy enough. I think walks on side walks and NON dog parks are fine. I think playing with healthy (not recently sick or currently sick) and 100% vaccinated animals is also fine. I do not recommend boarding, doggie daycare or dog parks until 2 weeks after the puppy's final vaccinations. So yes I think it absolutely fine for your friend to visit. Humans can carry viruses. If it has been 2 months since her previous dog died of parvo it is likely safe. She should leave her shoes outside and have clean clothes on. Have her wash her hands before playing with your puppy. If she recently, with in 2 months, had a parvo infected dog that is still alive in her house I would not have her visit. Good luck!
