My dog is throwing up, scooting, and has mucus in stool. ER visit?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltipoo | Male | neutered | 9 months and 10 days old | 10 lbs

My 10 month old pup woke up throwing up, stomach rumbling, and dragged his butt across the floor after pooping. His stool seems to have mucus. He did eat his meal and pooped right after as well. It was solid stool the second time. I am trying to get ahold of his vet but it seems like they are busy and cannot take us in today. Do his symptoms warrant an ER visit?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Ruffel. Poor boy! If he hasn't thrown up again recently, I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Hello. Do not withhold food, but offer a very bland diet for the next few days. 25% cooked chicken or hamburger with 75% plain white rice or low fat cottage cheese is usually well tolerated. In a small dig like this, a tablespoon or so every hour or so is fine unless he throws this up, too. If he can keep liquid down, make sure he stays hydrated by using low sodium chicken or beef broth in addition to fresh water. If he throws up the water, offer him liquids in the form of ice cubes ( water & broth ). As long as he seems pretty perky, try managing this until your appointment. If the vomiting is intractable or he develops diarrhea, you may need to have him seen sooner. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!

My dog has had Mushy stool followed by completely liquid stool drops after for the last two days and he just threw up spit/bile. What should I do, and at what point should I go to the vet for tests?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would recommend withholding food for at least 6 hours and then initiate a bland diet as outlined below. I would also recommend adding a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. Culturelle and VSL3 probiotics can also be safely used in dogs and you can find this at most drug stores. If there is no improvement or Buster worsens, I would then have him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having his feces checked for parasites and also have him tested for parvo if he is worsening. Abdominal x-rays should also be considered as part of a full workup. I hope this helps!
