My dog ate fish oil pills. Is he okay if he's acting normal now?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 55 lbs

My 55 pound dog may have injected 20 fish oil pills 24 hours ago. Acting normal, pee and poop is basically normal, poop is just a little bit soft. Acting normal, no signs of lithargy or any other changed in behavior

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Jakari. I think he may be ok from this overdose. I would have expected by now you would have seen issues such as vomiting if that was going to happen. You don't need to do anything, he sounds like he is fine. I hope this helps!

If it has been less than 2 hours since your pet ingested the foreign material, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than two hours and it will have already moved into the intestines. Generally, even without the induction of vomiting, your dog is likely to have diarrhea and other intestinal upset from eating so much fish oil at once. Be aware that one of the effects of fish oil in the body is to act as a blood thinner. I have seen dogs ingest much more than your dog did and do fine, but if your dog becomes lethargic, loses her appetite, starts vomiting, please get her seen by your vet right away.

I gave my dog 1 tablespoon of fish oil instead of one teaspoon he has diarrhea will he be ok
Chipper should be ok. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. My dog ate about 1/4 of a omega 3 pill will he be alright?
Hi there, and thank you for posting the question about Buster. Omega 3s are used in dogs as well, and the amount he got is actually what I would prescribe for his size, so it should not cause any problems. However, some dogs are sensitive to starting omega 3s and will develop some loose stools, however with a one time dose I think even that is unlikely. Best and luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

My dad pan fried fish in oul last night, 10 hours later gave my dog the pan to lick out after he cleaned out some of the oil. What will happen to my dog?
Hello, and thank you for your question. Ingesting a small amount of oil and fish from a pan should not cause any serious problems. At most I would expect to see a bit of diarrhea or softer stools for about 24 hours afterwards. You can try offering a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice during this time, to help minimize any stomach upset caused from eating the rich foods. If Daisy starts vomiting or has diarrhea that worsens over 24 hours, I would suggest taking her to a vet, as occasionally eating very rich foods can cause pancreatitis which is more serious and requires additional medications and care. Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. If he just ate the fish, you should take him to your local vets and they will make him vomit. If he had the fish over 1-1.5hrs ago, making him vomit will not be beneficial. In that case, you need to monitor him at home for signs of vomiting, diarrhea, blood in stools, abdominal pain, twitching, being unsteady on legs. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should take him to your local vets right away.

Fortunately, there is usually nothing overtly toxic with overdosing on a joint supplement, & if Louis is doing well at this time, he should continue to do so. He may experience some gastric upset, so diarrhea is still a possibility. I do want you to always be on the lookout for additional stomach problems such as vomiting, gagging/retching, bloating or perceived abdominal pain. If Louis seems at all uncomfortable, please contact your veterinarian or an emergency clinic. Again, my apologies that no one responded to you when you first posted your concerns. 60- 70 pound dog ate 1-2 liquid gel Advils will be be okay? I'm worried he's a black lab blue healer mix if that helps, and I have NO hydrogen peroxide
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! A therapeutic one time dose of Advil liquid gel 200mg is ONE tablet for a 60 lb dog. If he only ingested one then he will be fine. If he got a hold of 2 then you MIGHT have some GI effects like poor appetite, vomiting and stomach lining irritation but that is usually seen when they get in to much more (>25mg/kg so 3.5 capsules). Cooper is likely to be fine. If you notice anything he should see your Vet. I wish you the best!

I am sorry to hear about Benson! I would recommend called the Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661 https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/ to discuss Benson's ingestion. They have resources available to them to determine if your dog has ingested an amount of the accutane that could cause toxicity and require emergency treatment. The omega 3 pills will likely cause GI upset/diarrhea that may need symptomatic treatment, but the accutane could potentially cause a toxicity and may require emergency treatment. They will calculate the toxic dose for the dog and determine the treatment that should be given (if any is needed).

Hello. That should be ok for Archie. I would recommend monitoring closely for signs of vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, weakness, or inappetance. If these occur get Archie to the vet but if he is acting normally then just monitor. Good luck with him!
