Dog with stomach ulcer: new vomiting bile and peeing. Is this normal?

Phoebe was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer 3-4 weeks ago. She's on carafate, cerenia, & Prilosec. She's been doing good, but the past few days, she's puking and have incontinence. She's keeping down her food, but throwing up bile. Her poop is normal. Almost every time she lays down, she pees. She has been on Proin for years. Is this considered normal for dogs with ulcers? Her energy level is normal. I'm worried that it's something more serious going on and I can't afford to keep going to the vet

Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Phoebe. Poor girl, I'm sorry she isn't doing well at the moment. Throwing up bile is quite concerning, and her ulcers may be acting up despite the medication. It could be she needs a higher dose of her medication, but I cannot advise making any change to her medication without seeing her in person. She also should not be peeing while on Proin, so I'm wondering if she has a UTI causing the urinating. She does need to see a vet for these issues. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I noticed in one of those pictures that his stool is really diarrhea and is black (which usually means a sign of bleeding). Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. In addition, black stools can be indicative of bleeding into the small intestine or stomach which can happen secondary to an ulcer for instance. Bloody urine can be the result of an infection, stones, tumors, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. My dog keeps throwing up bile. Hes 8 months old and eats 2 big bowls of food A-day. He will heave for about 2 minutes and then a tiny amount of green or yellow bile will come out. This happens once A-day and it has been happening for about 5 or 6 day

Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. In the past two days my dog has been vomiting. Sometimes it a yellow, foamy bile looking product. Other times it’s her kibble - unchewed and she then starts eating it. She has been on puppy food since we got her at 12 weeks (she is now 7 months old
Antibiotics and urinary tract infections themselves can both cause nausea/vomiting. However, as you finished the antibiotics 5 days ago, it is less likely that the vomiting is due to the UTI antibiotics. If she has recently gotten table food or had access to food from the garbage, she may have a condition called pancreatitis caused by a sudden high fat meal that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. A trip to your veterinarian for screening bloodwork to rule out a liver/kidney/pancreas issue as the cause of the vomiting, subcutaneous fluid therapy, anti-nausea medication (cerenia), and a prescription intestinal diet is advised. If you are not able to get an appointment immediately, I recommend feeding only a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken (with no regular kibble) for the next 3-5 days. Sometimes this alone helps resolve the symptoms of mild gastroenteritis. Good luck!

That does sound concerning. It is possible that she is having another flare up of her previous ulcers. Other causes for diarrhea and vomiting with blood in it include Addison's disease, intestinal parasites, tick-borne diseases, IMHA, IBD, intestinal cancer, among many others. I would recommend that Gubbu get checked out by a vet as soon as possible. After physical examination and a review of her medical history, the vet may recommend bloodwork to check for anemia and other relevant things. They may also recommend an abdominal ultrasound, which will help use get a picture of what her digestive tract is doing and looks like.

My female dog threw up a blood clot, seems to have a hard time eating and crouches to pee with nothing coming out 10-15 times when I walk her. All of this in a span of 2 days.
I'm sorry to hear that Dakota is sick! Poor girl! I'm very concerned that she has vomited a blood clot and is having a hard time eating and urinating. Dakota needs to see a veterinarian right away to have these issues addressed. A blood clot in the vomit can indicate a severe GI ulcer or toxin exposure and subsequent bleeding. If she is unable to urinate she may have a severe UTI, bladder stone, or kidney infection. All of the above conditions require veterinary medical care. It is likely that Dakota may need blood work and a urinalysis to find out what the underlying cause is. She may need fluids and antibiotics in addition to other support care. This does need to be checked out by a vet; however, if she is no longer vomiting, is still eating and drinking, does not have diarrhea, and isn't lethargic, then it's fine to wait until your regular vet is back on. Should she keep vomiting, stops eating, has diarrhea, or is very lethargic, then I would have her seen by a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

My dog (she will be a 1 yr old Boykin Spaniel next month) is throwing up yellow bile, and her urine is dark yellow with a very strong smell. Any idea what might be wrong? Kidney infection? Should this be treated?
It sounds as Georgia is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

My dog is peeing and blood is coming out and he is vomiting his food I have no clue what this means.
Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Tip toe needs to go to a veterinarian immediately. Urinating blood can indicating a bladder infection or something potentially life threatening like a clotting disorder. The fact that he is also committing indicates systemic illness. The veterinarian will perform a physical exam and then recommend diagnostics such as urinalysis bloodwork or possibly radiographs (xrays). Good luck and I hope he’s better soon.

He had been throwing up, med said his urea was high, he prescribed ipakitine powder and kiddle for liver treatment, still throwing up, he now added tums and a pill for ulcers. He had stopped. But tonight he threw up and since he's having stomach pain
I am sorry Chuck isn't feeling well. If his BUN was elevated I would be concerned about kidney disease and that could be why he is vomiting. Especially at 15 years old there is a lot of different things that can be going on with him. He needs to get to a veterinarian as soon as you can since without actually seeing him and knowing more information it is hard to give direct advice. With putting him to sleep at 15 years old I would recommend discussing this with your veterinarian to see if his quality of life and medical concerns and issues are something that you, your family and your veterinarian feel is the best thing for him. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I see on the bloodwork that Lumi has elevation of bilirubin. Also, the potassium, sodium and chloride are decreased which can be due to vomiting and not eating well. The elevated neutrophils (inflammatory cells) could be an indication of an infection, pancreatitis, among many other things. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by an emergency veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Some of these conditions require hospitalization and supportive care and he may benefit from that. Also, further diagnostics such as an abdominal ultrasound could help determine if pancreatitis is likely or liver disease or something else seems more likely. Good luck and have a great day!
