My puppy ate cat poop and is lethargic and gassy. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Bernese Mountain Dog | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 16 days old | 95 lbs

My 10 week old bernese mountain dog ate cat poop earlier today. He ate all of his food earlier today, but was uninterested in the food I brought him a little bit ago. He was laying down and getting back up and whined quietly sometimes. Now he is sleeping on the floor and passed some gas. Should I be worried?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Roman. Eating cat poop is a very common behavior in dogs, and it can cause some stomach upset. I suspect that is what is happening with him. He should be back to normal by tomorrow, no need to worry. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Her diarrhea in this case is most likely due to her change in diet. However, other possibilities such as parasites cannot be completely ruled out. It is possible that her diarrhea will improve on its own if it was just that. You can monitor her for now. my dog ate a little bit of grill cheese would that cause him to pass gas?

I think my dog just ate fresh poop from a feral kitten. Should i take him to the vet right away or wait and watch for symptoms?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is unlikely to become an issue. I would just monitor him for any signs of illness such as inappetence, vomiting, diarrhea and/or lethargy. Our German Shepherd ate some cow poop. Don’t know if it is harmful for her. She seems a little lathargic
It should not case any serious intoxication but it definitely can produce gastric signs. So, you need to keep an eye on Samatha for the next few hours, she may vomit or/and have diarrhoea and be off colour. The symptoms will be hopefully only mild but if she starts looking unwell, you should get in touch with your local vets today.

My dog ate cat poop out of the litter box and I’m assuming he ate some cat litter as well. Do I need to take him to the vet? What signs should I watch for?
Oh dear! It's very common for dogs to do this, unfortunately - most of them love cat poop, and will eat it any chance they get. The good news is, it rarely causes any problems apart from some mild stomach upset as long as he only ate a small amount. If he ingested a large amount of cat litter, there is a chance that this could cause an obstruction in his intestines - this is unusual in my experience, but can happen in dogs who consume really large amounts. Signs of this problem would include repeated episodes of vomiting, not wanting to eat, and not having bowel movements. If you notice any of these issues over the next day or two, then I would recommend taking Marcellus to the vet right away to be checked. But as long as he is eating fine and acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry.

He was burping and restless so I took him to walk where he poop and I took a picture so can you please tell me looking at his pop color that color of poop is ok or not and what shouold I give him to eat if he is having gas inside ?

My Chihuahua puppy ate a lot of cat poop and now bee is vomiting every 5 to 10 minutes. What should I do?
Did he eat the litter also? I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian especially if he got some of the litter. This can cause an obstruction. With how young and small he is he can get dehydrated and sick pretty fast. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Should I do anything if my puppy gets gassy? He hasn’t had a change of diet or eaten anything spoiled but his farts are really smelly.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is likely due to a sensitivity to his food. You may start by switching his diet to something else by switching the protein and the carbohydrate to see if that makes it better. That alone is likely to improve this. Good luck and have a great day!

I wouldn't be too concerned about gas alone, especially if you are not seeing true vomiting or diarrhea. While drinking the bath water is not ideal and I wouldn't encourage the behavior it is unlikely to cause much harm. If Lou does start vomiting or his soft stool progresses to diarrhea you should contact your vet to see what they would recommend.

Hello, sorry to hear about Bruno. You may attach a picture if you'd like, however, the majority of times gas and abnormal stools may be associated with some form of dietary indiscretion. Meaning, they may have ate something that caused their GI tract to become upset. The signs you are describing are very mild and thus, no immediate need to see your veterinarian is warranted. However, if Bruno has any active vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or decreased appetite then he should be seen by his veterinarian. Other causes of GI signs may include a parasite or viral infection, inflammation of the bowel and ingestion of foreign material. Hope this helps and best of luck.
