My dog swallowed nail polish weeks ago, seems fine. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 months and 14 days old | 22 lbs

Today I went to look for a small bottle of nail polish last used 3 weeks ago. It was old so not sure if I threw it out. My 20 lb dog has been eating fine, running, pooping (gel like outer 2 days ago might be from his daily peanut butter) but I read an object can stay for months. I am hoping since he is 20 lbs IF he had swallowed this god forbid I would know by NOW...we weeks later

Yes, I would expect that if he had swallowed this bottle of nail polish, you would have seen some signs by now such as lethargy and a loss of appetite. Given that he's normal, I would not worry. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. The risks of swallowing a nail include perforation of the intestinal tract, which is a life-threatening surgical emergency. They can also get iron toxicity, which can cause severe GI upset and liver damage. The best way to tell if Evy ate a nail would be to take her to a veterinarian for an x-ray of her abdomen. If you cannot bring her, please monitor her for signs of vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, abdominal pain, and have her seen by a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, if she continues to act normal at home, she likely did not eat the nail and should be OK. I hope this is helpful!

I don't have any dog friendly nail polish and my dog might have ring worm so my mom told me to put nail polish on it and put a sock over it so I did. He has removed the sock and it looks like he might have ingested some Is it safe to Leave it alone
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I am not sure I understand what Duke could have ingested? Did he eat part of the sock or lick some of the nail polish? The sock could cause a blockage if he ingested that so watch for vomiting, lethargy, not eating. Watch his stool to see if it passes. If he licked some of the nail polish I would think he should be fine. I wish you the best.

suspecting my puppy swallowed a nail, and wondering when will i know if she did not; like how long before she starts acting weird or something
It could happen quickly if it causes a problem in the esophagus, or it could take a few days to become lodged in the intestines. There are reports out there of foreign objects that have stayed in the stomach for months. I think your best bet would be to see a veterinarian who can perform an x-ray and determine whether or not the nail was eaten and what should be done next. Sometimes simply monitoring the stool for a few days until the nail is recovered would be recommended.

My oldest niece had left glue that's used for nails on the floor and my dog had grabbed it to chew on it. When, I finally was able to free it from his mouth I noticed a little bit of dried glue on his fur near his lip.

I would make sure he isn't breathing funny, coughing or sneezing. This could cause some irritation of the respiratory tract if inhaled. It could cause an upset stomach if ingested. My dog ate what looked to be like a paint chip. It was only one not very big but that was hours ago I’d say between 2:30-3pm. It’s 10pm and she’s acted completely normal. Eats. Drinks. Same energy. Does this mean she’ll be okay?
It can take up to a couple of days to see problems from a foreign body if one was going to occur, but given that Snowball ate a very small paint chip, I doubt that will happen. I'd also expect to see some GI upset by now. It's great that she is eating, drinking, and behaving normally, and I wouldn't be too worried about her. In all likelihood, she will be just fine. Hello. It sounds like you did a great job cleaning Frances off. Small ingestions like this are rarely harmful or dangerous, so I would not be worried. Just watch for any gastrointestinal upsets like vomiting, diarrhea or a loss of appetite. I really do not expect you to see anything, but it is good to be watchful. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Ziggy. Oh no, that's not good! I would wait some more. He's not showing any signs of a problem, and since he's otherwise acting normally, there's no need to rush him into a vet. Now if he does start showing signs of a problem, then I would take him into a vet right away. It may be this has already passed without problem. If there was internal damage, you would see signs of a problem such as a loss of appetite, lethargy, and blood in his poop. If it would make you feel better to have him checked out, that's certainly ok, but it's also fine to keep an eye on him for now. I hope this helps!

My dog drank nail polish remover we gave her water what do I do
Nail polish remover is acetone based, but it does take a fair amount for it to cause any problems. I'm not sure how much Luna drank, but I would give her some milk to dilute the acetone. Symptoms of drinking nail polish remover can range from GI symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, to severe symptoms involving the central nervous system or inhalation leading to pleuritis or aspiration pneumonia. Monitor Luna for any abnormal signs and symptoms, and if you see anything concerning, take her into a vet immediately.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. If Jayden is eating/drinking/pooping/peeing and playing normally, then I would just monitor him for now. If Jayden is vomiting, not eating, acting unwell, has a sore belly, or is not himself, then get him to the vet for some x-rays. In the meantime, feed a bland diet of boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breast and boiled rice in small frequent meals. Best of luck with Jayden!
