My dog's bottom looks injured after a leash yank. Does he need a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 26 lbs

Should I bring my dog in for an examination of his bottom? He ran full force at another dog on a walk this afternoon, but he was on a leash and in a harness so he got yanked back and slid across the ground. it doesn’t seem to bother him even when he poops, but it looks bad.

I agree, it does look bad and I do think you should take him into a vet to get this checked out and treated. I'd take him into tonight if possible; otherwise, have him seen in the morning. That looks like it may be an anal prolapse, where a bit of the anus protrudes out. This does need to be checked out by a vet. First thing in the morning, I would take him into the vet. My dog seems to be scooting his butt on the floor a lot recently and so intensely that he cut himself. Is it something that I should be worried about?
Ouch! Yes, that look like a wound or a mass. I can't tell from the photo but I recommend to have Buddy examined today. That is not only a sensitive area but scooting that intense indicates a problem. The vet will need to check his anal glands. He will also need to wear an elizabethan collar to protect the area from licking and he will need to be kept on sift surfaces and discouraged from dragging his bottom. The vet will like;y give him medication as well to decrease the irritation and treat the wound/mass. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Can u tell me what to do
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like a fairly superficial wound at least based on this picture. However, it would still be a good idea to have him evaluated by a veterinarian to look at it more closely in case it is deeper than what it looks like. Also, these can be painful and can get infected so your veterinarian could potentially start antibiotics and pain control medications. If superficial, these wounds tend to respond well to therapy and heal relatively quickly. Good luck and have a good night!

I suspect he is in a lot of pain if he won't eat or drink, and walks really slow. He could also have internal injuries. You cannot treat this at home, he has to see a vet immediately. Leaving him like this would be cruel to him, so please take him into a vet now to get this treated. Best of luck.

My puppies anus looks weak. I haven’t seen the rectum prolapsed like in the pictures I have looked up online. He had strained a few times, but I hadn’t noticed his little anus looked abnormal until I trimmed his hair there.
Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I unfortunately cannot tell much about how the anus is functioning by looking at a photo. Testing has to be done in person by a vet to see if the sphincter is responding. I do not see a prolapse in this photo. I agree the anal opening looks flaccid but that is all I can say. I strongly recommend you take him to a vet for an exam especially if you think he is straining. At 2 months old he is ready for his first vaccinations anyway and if he has not been dewormed already that needs to be done as well.

That area of the body is, of course, full of contaminating bacteria so get her seen by your vet right away. Most likely your vet will place her on antibiotics, assess the wound, and make other recommendations. Good luck

my dog has a swollen anus. It also appears as almost her flesh is coming off ... she had a lot of poop stuck to it as well. Is that normal or should i take her to the vet?

It is a little difficult to say exactly what is going on with Daisy - she may have a recital prolapse (a condition where some of the tissue in the rectum actually comes out) or chronic irritation if she is scooting on carpeted areas. Scooting may be related to anal gland impactions, infections, or intestinal parasites. I recommend having Daisy seen by a vet as soon as possible because she is likely uncomfortable and the conditions above require treatment. I hope all is well!

Left my dog with a sitter for 5 days and he came back with this
Hello. Did the sitter ever notice the dog scratching? This could be an actual injury, or he could have scratched a wound because of an allergic reaction to something in the house, or possibly even from stress. This looks significant enough that I would recommend an evaluation by your veterinarian in case additional treatment or antibiotics are needed. My dog has poop stuck to his butt and it won't come off. I've tried to take him a warm bat for the poop to soften then remove it that hasn't worked and before that I just tried to remove it gently that hasn't worked either... everytime I touch it he
Poor Louis! This can happen in some long-haired dogs, when poop becomes matted in the hair and stuck over the rectum. In many cases, the skin underneath becomes irritated and infected, and very sore when touched. I would recommend taking Louis to a vet today if you can - he/she can sedate him to allow the poop and matted hair to be clipped away without hurting him, and can also prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication for the skin underneath if needed.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It does not appear to be healing as well and I think he would likely benefit from having stitches to close the wound. However, this is something that is usually decided based on a closer examination. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
