What's this growth on my 8-week-old puppy's anus? Is it urgent?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Mazzy and for providing a picture. The picture is very helpful! That looks like she has an anal prolapse, which is when the anus is displaced outside the body. It will need to be put back into place and the best person to do this is the vet. I do recommend taking her into a vet now. I hope this helps!

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! The growth can be a mass, infected or inflamed anal gland, or a prolapse if it is donut shaped. I definitely recommend having this seen by your vet as soon as possible, as it can be pretty uncomfortable. In the meantime, you can get Ollie an E-collar or “cone” if he is licking the area to prevent further trauma.

Hi, I have a female dog, only about 2 months old, and it looks like her anus is out, big red swallow. What should I do? Is it about her diet? Please, help.
Poor Dizzy! Without being able to see her, it's hard to say for sure what's going on here - but from your description, since you say that "her anus is out," it sounds like she may have a rectal prolapse. This means that the tissue lining her rectum has turned inside out and is protruding from her anus, like a pink growth or lump. If this is the case, she needs to be seen by a vet immediately to have the prolapsed tissue replaced and tacked back in place with suture - the longer it's out, the higher the chance that the tissue will dry out and become necrotic, in which case surgery will be needed to try and repair the damage.

My puppies anus looks weak. I haven’t seen the rectum prolapsed like in the pictures I have looked up online. He had strained a few times, but I hadn’t noticed his little anus looked abnormal until I trimmed his hair there.
Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I unfortunately cannot tell much about how the anus is functioning by looking at a photo. Testing has to be done in person by a vet to see if the sphincter is responding. I do not see a prolapse in this photo. I agree the anal opening looks flaccid but that is all I can say. I strongly recommend you take him to a vet for an exam especially if you think he is straining. At 2 months old he is ready for his first vaccinations anyway and if he has not been dewormed already that needs to be done as well.

I got my 5 week old puppy 4 days ago and have been slowly moving her onto puppy chow by soaking her food in water till is mushy but I have noticed a pink flesh poking out of her butt and I'm concerned.. please help
This is the beginning of a rectal prolapse. This is usually due to straining to poop due to parasites. I recommend bringing Jay Crowe to your veterinarian to have this examined and treated. They will check a fecal sample for parasites and give her the correct deworming medication. She will need several deworming treatments to get rid of the parasites. If needed they will lubricate the red area and push it back inside. A rectal prolapse can become very large and is a serious problem that should be treated soon. My dog fell out of my arms and on his back. He seems fine but his but looks inflamed a bit

That looks like it may be an anal prolapse, where a bit of the anus protrudes out. This does need to be checked out by a vet. First thing in the morning, I would take him into the vet. It could be a benign or malignant growth, or an infected area in the anal tissue. I would keep an eye on it and have it checked by your veterinarian at your next regularly scheduled visit. At this point it nothing to be overly concerned about from the photo. Certainly if it changes at all or causes a problem for your dog then take him in right away to have an exam. my dog has a swollen anus. It also appears as almost her flesh is coming off ... she had a lot of poop stuck to it as well. Is that normal or should i take her to the vet?

It is a little difficult to say exactly what is going on with Daisy - she may have a recital prolapse (a condition where some of the tissue in the rectum actually comes out) or chronic irritation if she is scooting on carpeted areas. Scooting may be related to anal gland impactions, infections, or intestinal parasites. I recommend having Daisy seen by a vet as soon as possible because she is likely uncomfortable and the conditions above require treatment. I hope all is well!

Hello,our new puppy, 2 month old golden retriever, has a small red growth above her anus. It is soft, and when vet checked it, it was bleeding little bit.Vet told us he never saw it before.
That does look odd. As a guess, I would suspect an infection or perhaps a prolapse. I recommend to discuss with the veterinarian some type of anti-inflammatory or even an antibiotic. The vet should also preform a rectal exam to get a better idea of the anatomy of the anus. Make sure to keep the area from trauma so She may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times. She should also not drag her rectum on the ground (and if she does, keep her off rough surfaces). An omega 3 fatty acid supplement will not correct the problem but it may help to decrease inflammation and condition the skin. Prolapses sometimes require surgical correction. Have your pup examined again to discuss options. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

What is wrong with my dog’s anus? Whenever she defecates, it swells and protrudes; a minute later, it will subside and look relatively normal again. I’ll be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but I’d just like to know what to expect.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are a few things that can cause this such as parasites and in uncommon instances cancer such as lymphoma, among other possibilities. Your veterinarian would be able to examine her more closely and see what seems likely so that therapy can be started. Hopefully it is just a case of parasites as it is most of the time. Best of luck!

My 10 year old putbull had a small lump on his tail next to his anus,that got considerably larger in about 48 hours and started to bleed... Ive enclosed a picture of what it looks like too..may even have puss coming out of it.. Any idea what this is
Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! The pictures have attached this time. Oh my goodness! This mass is very large and looks very infected. Like I had mentioned previously, it may be an anal sac abscess or may also be a cancerous tumor. Marley really should be seen by a veterinarian very soon to have this evaluated and treated. He will most likely need to be on antibiotics as well. There are really no home treatments for this. Please take Marley to see his veterinarian soon!
