My dog got bit under a fence and is bleeding. Should I go to the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 15 lbs

While walking our dog, another dog stuck their mouth under a fence and we believe it our dog. She was bleeding. Not sure if she needs to see a vet or not. It's possible she bit herself, but not sure.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Leia. Poor girl! From the picture, it looks like there may be some tissue missing around her lip, and she may need stitches. I do think it's best you take her into a vet now to get this treated. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. If the wound is small and the bleeding is a small amount, I would make sure that you keep the area clean with saline or a betadine / water solution (mixed together so that you have a light brown solution) and monitor for signs of infection (swelling, redness or pus). If the area worsens I would recommend getting her to a veterinarian if possible for further treatment. I hope this helps! Hi and thanks for posting! Sometimes bite wounds can leave pockets in the skin making the wound worse than they appear initially. It would be a good idea for this to be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your veterinarian will asses the area for pockets in the skin and asses whether or not stitches are needed. It seems small enough for tissue glue to be used but the wound may need to be closed with a stitch or two. A lot of bacteria is intro introduced into the skin and surrounding tissue during a bite. Brisquette may need systemic antibiotics as well to help lessen the chance of developing an infection. I hope this helps and thanks for using Boop by Petco!

My dog ha this on the side of he's face it was bleeding I'm not sure how he done it or what it is please help I've cleaned it with warm water and cotton wool should i take him to the vets
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Based on the pictures it appears that Rocco may have either an open wound or a growth of some kind that has started oozing. I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine if he needs stitches, etc based on what the underlying cause for his lesion is and to start any treatment (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory) that may be needed. If this does not resolve within 24-48 hours, then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I recommend that you keep a clean towel on top of the wound and have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is important to make sure she is not bleeding from a wound that for example requires further local therapy with wound closure. Good luck and best wishes!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm so sorry to hear about Darby, I can imagine that was very scary for both of you! I would recommend having Darby seen by a veterinarian as soon as you can. Dog bite wounds can be very extensive, beyond what you can see on the surface. There can be significant soft tissue injury that you cannot see, and a wound that looks like a small puncture can actually have deep pocketing and tissue damage. Also, dog bite wounds are very prone to becoming infected, as the bacteria in a dog's mouth can infect your dog's skin and prevent the wounds from healing. Your veterinarian will likely want to sedate Darby so he/she can clip the hair around the wounds and clean them out. Based on Darby's physical exam, your veterinarian may also recommend x-rays to look for evidence of other trauma, such as lung contusions (bruises) or fractures. Your veterinarian can also prescribe pain medications and antibiotics. As a reminder, NEVER give dogs pain med

Dog fight - puncture wounds to the nose and lower lip
Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Poor Gracie! It’s tough to be certain of the severity of her wounds without examining myself, but fortunately those wounds don’t appear to be too serious from the photos. I think it’s unlikely that she’ll need stitches. However, bite wounds tend to get infected, so I would bring Gracie in to your vet when they open tomorrow, as they’ll likely want to start her on antibiotics. In the meantime, keep those wounds clean by gently washing them with warm soapy water (Dawn dish soap works well). I hope this helps and she feels better!

It does though sounds concerning enough that warrants an evaluation by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look at the wound up close to determine if stitches are needed. Also, antibiotics and pain control medications can be prescribed at the time as these wounds tend to be painful. My dog was bitten by another dog at the dog park. I am not sure if I need to bring him in or not so I though I’d ask before so.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Natsu and for providing pictures, they are very helpful. Poor boy! My concern is the swelling I see on the bridge of his nose, and dog bites can become infected. I do think it's best for him to see the vet to get pain medication and antibiotics. I would take him into a vet now. I hope this helps!

My dog is a toy poodle and she's bitten by one of my bigger dogs.....her lower jaw is lose.....i took her to the nearest vet...the vet did dressing for my dog....i need advice...now she is still bleeding and she is also uncomfortable.....
She needs to go back to the veterinarian for xrays of her jaw if it is that loose. I would be concerned that it is broken. She also need to be re-evaluated if she is bleeding and uncomfortable. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.
