My puppy is sick. Could eating backyard wood chips be the cause?

To whom this may concern, Hello. My name is Amber. I am a concerned person who needs information that may help me. My sister has a puppy who seems sick most of the time. I was thinking that it could be our wood chips that we have in the backyard. He always puts them in his mouth. And these chips have little splinters that get stuck in my hands. Could this be what's upsetting him inside of his body? Please reply, if possible. God Bless. Amber

Hello Amber! Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. Absolutely these wood chips could be causing him problems. If he's eating them, it could cause stomach upset, a loss of appetite, and potentially damage to his stomach and intestines. There is also a chance it could cause an obstruction if he ate enough of them. I would not let him out in the backyard unsupervised so you can stop him from eating the wood chips, and I would have him checked out by a vet to see if this could be a cause of him being sick.
