My dog has a bump on his chest. He is very sleepy and keeps biting the area.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Wallace. He's biting the area because it's bothering him. This could be a cyst, benign growth, malignant growth, or lipoma. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I have a 9 year old female shepherd. She never had any health problem. But now suddenly she has a round bump on her chest. And it feels cold when i touch it. And she feels no pain when i press it.
This lump should be checked out by a veterinarian. I suspect it is some type of tumor, or it could be an abscess or infection (though less likely as she's not painful). A tumor could be benign, meaning that it doesn't need treatment at all, or that surgical removal alone would cure the problem, or it could be malignant, meaning that surgical removal alone may not solve the issue. Take her to the vet. Your vet will likely do a "fine needle aspirate" which is when we poke a skin lump with a needle to get a sample of the cells, then squirt those cells out onto a microscope to look at it. Based on findings, your vet will be able to advise you of what treatment, if any, is needed. Thank you for asking Boop by Petco!

Hello. This is probably a benign neoplasia called a lipoma, but any lump, bump or nodule that pops up, especially on an older dog, should be brought to your veterinarians attention as quickly as possible. Sometimes we will do a very simple needle aspirate to look for any unusual cells under the microscope, or your veterinarian may just elect to watch things. But it should at least be evaluated. Hi my Staffordshire bull terrier bitch has a crusty lump with fur growing on it on her bottom jaw, she has been lethargic for 2 days and hasnt eaten her food. What could this be?
Hi, and thanks for your question. This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. My dog was attacked and bit by a dog 2 years go we immediately brought him to the vet and all healed well. Now I notice a slight bump under the are where my dog was bit ....he doesn’t seem to be I. Pain when I touch the area. Please advise

The bump is probably swollen tissue, as he was bitten by another dog there is very high chances of him developing a bad infection from the bite wound, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get the wound checked and he will need a course of antibiotics in order to get better.

I think my dog has a skin tumor or a soft tissue tumor because I can see it and feel it it seems as if it is getting larger and it is located near the chest. Must I be worried?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Any lump or mass is a possible cause for concern. Masses/lumps can be cancerous, or non-cancerous (lipoma, cyst, abscess). Anything that is changing (growing, changing colour/shape, bursting, etc.) should be addressed and the sooner the better. I would recommend a visit to your vet.
