My intact male dogs fight when excited. Is it hormones or play?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | unneutered | 35 lbs

We have four big dogs that have grown up together, three males and one female. The female is the only one desexed. I’ve raised two of them since puppies and recently they’ve been getting into very aggressive fights with each other seem long out of nowhere, it only happens whenever the family goes outside to play with them, is those due to excitement? Or something else? There’s a cattle dog (male) Ridgeback (Male) Bull mastiff (Male) and a Bull Arab (Female)

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. They could be fighting due to excitement but it could also be hormonally related. Intact dog fights can be extremely serious, I would have all your male dogs neutered to stop this behavior. Best of luck.
