My dog got a double dose of metronidazole. Should I induce vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

Our dog (50 lbs) got two doses of metronidazole tablets 250mg tonight instead of one. I had not realized my husband had already given her the dose for tonight. Should I induce vomiting or will she be ok?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Kachina. She will be fine. The dose range of metronidazole can go up to 11mg per day, which would be 550mg at her weight. Depending on the infection, the dose rate can be even higher than 11mg. All of this is to say you did not overdose her, and you do not need to induce vomiting. She will be fine. I hope this helps!
