My dog ate sugar-free chocolate cookies. Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 20 lbs

Dog ate two sugar free chocolate cookies an hour ago but has not vomited. Cannot afford local emergency vet and it is not my dog. I am caring for it while roommate is deployed.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Pepper. As long as the cookies did not contain xylitol, she should be ok. This likely won't be enough chocolate to cause any problems. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This would be very concerning if Dora ingested all of those. If that is your concern, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as chocolate intoxication is rather serious. Best of luck!

Cooper may have eaten a couple small chocolate Easter candies

My 75lb dog ate about 10 chocolate chip cookies. Will she be okay?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Since Mulan is 75 lbs there is likely not enough chocolate in the cookies to cause toxicity. But that amount of cookies could cause tummy upset or pancreatitis. If Mulan starts vomiting, having diarrhea or won't eat then make an appointment with your Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!

My dog ate a chocolate chip medium sized cookie with some semi sweet chocolate chips in it. He’s acting fine as of now it’s currently been 10 minutes.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Pete. I see he's a good sized dog at 55lbs, so chances are eating this cookie is not going to cause him any problems. At most, you may see some GI upset, but I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see anything at all. It can take up to 24 hours for signs of chocolate toxicity to occur, so monitor him over this time period. Do not let him get ahold of any more cookies! I hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Jax. Oh those cookies sound yum! The good news is there are no ingredients that are toxic, so you don't have to do anything for him. At most, you may see some stomach upset in the form of diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite. If you do see those signs, then have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

My dog ate a pair of chocolate biscuits and in the package it says .99oz for 3 pairs so it is .33 oz per pair..my dog is 7.2 kilos . Is this poisonous for her?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Trixie should be fine! This amount of chocolate even if it was dark or milk chocolate isn't toxic. She could have tummy upset from the other parts of the biscuit so feeding her a bland diet for a few days isn't wrong. I wish you and Trixie the best!

Hello there I just got home and I saw my dog had lot's of cookies and chocolates from the table. Is there anything that I have to do?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, and the severity is dependent on the amount of chocolate eaten. If you can determine the type of chocolate (white, milk, dark, etc.) and the exact amount (number of ounces or grams), then you can call your local 24 hour clinic and ask if that amount is toxic or not. If it is, then you will need to get Vito to throw up, and then depending on what is thrown up and how much chocolate was ingested, IV fluids, and medications, might be required. Chocolate toxicity causes vomiting, diarrhea, tachycardia (high heart rate), arrythmias (Abnormal heart beat rhythm), tremors, seizures and death, often in that order, depending on how much was eaten. Best of luck with Vito, hopefully it wasn't too much chocolate.

Pepe will likely be fine unless he is unusually sensitive. White chocolate has the lowest concentration of the chocolates. He may experience some vomiting or diarrhea or he may have no signs at all. To be safe, watch for signs of toxicity such as tremoring, seizures and hyper excitability. If you want to be proactive in regards to possible GI upset, you can feed him a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice tonight and tomorrow morning. If you see anything worrisome, head to the emergency clinic. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions!

My dog ate candy now she's lethargic won't eat or move please help
Hi, thank you for using Boop by Petco! Poor Gretchen!! I highly recommend you take Gretchen to your Vet ASAP or an emergency hospital now. Some candy contains xylitol which is highly toxic to dogs. It causes low blood sugar and liver failure. Another possibility is a stomach or intestinal obstruction (the wrappers are stuck and need to be surgically removed) or pancreatitis secondary to the candy. After the Vet does an exam they will want to run full blood work and possibly belly X-rays. I hope this helps and I wish Gretchen the best!

My 80 pound Golden Retriever just stole 2 medium size chocolate chip cookies off the counter about 30 minutes ago. I would guess maybe 6-8 milk chocolate chips per cookie. It's almost midnight here.should i drive hom an hour to the closest emergenc
Such a small amount of milk chocolate is unlikely to have any effect in such a large dog. I recommend monitoring for muscle twitching or agitation, vomiting or diarrhea and arrange an emergency appointment in the unlikely event they occur
