My German Shepherd puppy has diarrhea and is lethargic. Is it serious?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Mila. Poor girl. It could be she has an infection causing the diarrhea, but it could also be something else like worms. Given that she has had it for a couple of days and is now lethargic, it's time to see a vet. I'd take her into one first thing in the morning to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

The problem may be infected but very commonly is dietary related in puppies. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Based on your description, it is difficult to say for sure what the primary problem is as there are many causes of these symptoms. I do worry about him becoming dehydrated from the diarrhea. If this is a persistent problem and he is losing weight, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have his blood tested in addition to the examination to begin with and go from there. I hope this helps and that Woody gets better soon! I have 2 month old gsd puppy and she is not eating. She has diarrhea. What should i do? And plz tell me about her vaccination. She is looking quite lethargic but she plays well. I don't know whats happening. Plz help
There are several possible causes of diarrhea including food intolerance, parasites, viral or bacterial infection, and stress. Puppies with diarrhea can become dehydrated quickly. If you have access to a veterinarian, I recommend taking Misty in to be evaluated as soon as you can. If you do not have access to a veterinarian, you can offer Misty a bland diet with rice and egg. Try feeding several small meals per day rather than one or two large meals. Once her diarrhea improves you can start adding back in her regular food. When she is feeling better she is due for her first set of puppy vaccinations, and this will need to be repeated at 12 and 16 weeks of age. I hope she is feeling better soon.

I am sorry to hear about Sadie. She definitely needs to visit a vet for this issue since it has been going on for so long. If she seems weak, has abdominal pain, is not eating or is vomiting, is having trouble breathing, or has pale gums then these would be reasons to seek emergency care. If not I would try to get an appointment at your vet as soon as possible.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Mocha is adorable! Since she is only 8 weeks old and is now lethargic I think you should have her seen when your Vet reopens. Bring a stool sample with you. Also bring any paper work showing vaccinations you received when you got her. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral (parvo virus) and bacterial infections, she ate something gross that upset her tummy, toxin ingestion, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/human food. Poor pup! It's certainly possible that this could be parvo, but in my experience most puppies with parvo are also very lethargic, vomiting, and not eating. She could also have intestinal parasites, an intestinal infection of some kind, or an upset stomach due to something she ate. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam first, to find out for sure what is causing her diarrhea - then your vet can discuss treatment recommendations based on what is found. In the meantime, I would suggest withholding food for the next 6-12 hours to give her stomach a chance to rest. After that, you can try feeding a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice until you are able to see the vet.

I recommend having Neo seen by his vet, who can perform bloodwork, an x-ray and an ultrasound if necessary to rule out the conditions above.

I would be concerned that the diarrhea could be caused by intestinal parasites, a viral infection like distemper or parvo, or even a change in diet. The fact that she is so lethargic and won't eat concerns me. I would talk to your vet about doing a fecal, blood work and a parvo test if available. You vet should be able to give her some fluids to help rehydrate her if needed and some medications to help the diarrhea. I would offer her some plain boiled chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if she is willing to eat that and maybe it will settle her tummy. I hope this helps.

I just got a German Shepherd puppy. her name is koko(ここ) and it was healthy but since yesterday it's shit is total liquid and she seems to be suffering. I think it is due to heat.
Poor Koko! Sounds like she needs to see a vet. I would recommend collecting a stool sample (sample of the diarrhea), and making an appointment for Koko. She could have a virus, or parasites, and it sounds like she needs some help! Best of luck!

I recommend that you have Zekie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
