My dog won't eat her food after I switched to a new variety. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 11 months and 10 days old | 20 lbs

I changed my dogs dry food to a slightly different one but the same brand and I noticed she stopped being excited about food and doesn’t really eat all of it. She leaves some of it and then comes back to eat later after few hours. Sometimes she can leave it and not eat it at all. Can it be that she doesn’t like the food or there is another issue?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Koala. It may be she does not like the new food, and that's why she isn't eating it. I would slowly transition her back to her normal food and see if her appetite improves. If it does, then you know it's due to the food. If it doesn't, then it may be a medical illness and I would have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
