Can I take my new puppy to a beach house the same day I get him?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 7 days old | 11 lbs

I am picking up my new lab puppy Gus this Saturday. I am wondering if it is okay to take him on the family beach trip that same day? I will not be taking him on the beach but he will be in the house with us.

Do not let him have contact with other dogs unless they are family dogs who are fully vaccinated. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Great question! It is best to wait until he is fully vaccinated. That one set of vaccinations is not enough to keep Rex protected. If you want to socialize him it is best to take him to puppy classes or puppy play time session with other puppies that have also been vaccinated. Personnel will have checked all the documentation for all the puppies and the facility will be clean. When you take him to a dog beach you have no idea if any other dogs in the area have been vaccinated, dewormed, etc. After he has had all his vaccines at 16 weeks of age he should be fine to go to the dog beach. I live in Hawaii with my 7 week old puppy. Is she too young to play on the beach? She is pretty advanced, mostly uses restroom outside and on pads, walks on leash, etc. she has basic shots for her age
Unfortunately I would recommend not letting your puppy on the beach until she is at least 4 months old and has had all of her vaccines. Until a puppy is old enough to have all of their vaccines, they are at risk for very dangerous diseases like parvo, distemper and kennel cough. The puppy can also pick up things like intestinal parasites from waste other dogs may have left on the beach. Better to be safe than sorry!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I think there is a fine line between socialization and trying to protect them from infectious diseases. I think it is fine to walk not fully vaccinated puppies on sidewalks, roads and parks that don't have a lot of dog traffic. No dog parks or doggie day care. Only allow play with dogs that are fully vaccinated and not sick. I just tell owners to be smart about it! I hope this helps!

Hi, I have a 9 week old puppy and I was wondering if it’s safe for her to do a 6 hour road trip?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is safe for her to make the trip. I would just make frequent stops so she can stretch her legs and go to the bathroom. I wouldn’t feed her during the trip in case she gets car sick. Kisses to your new pup!

Thank you for using Boop by Petco and congratulations on your new puppy! Unfortunately, Maximus is not fully vaccinated at this point, so he should not be going outside. Depending on your state, he can be fully vaccinated by 12 or 16 weeks. If this was his first round of shots, he will need a booster in 2-4 weeks and then his Rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks as well as his last booster. Maximus should have minimal contact with other dogs (even where other dogs have gone to the bathroom) as you can’t be sure they are not carrying any of the viruses that Maximus is not vaccinated for that can make him very sick. I know it is difficult to keep a large active puppy inside, but your vet can work with you to have Maximus fully vaccinated in a reasonable amount of time.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. It is definitely OK for them to interact, and it will actually help socialize your younger puppy. Your younger dog will learn their boundaries and what behaviors are acceptable and not. Before bringing your young puppy out to play in public with any other dogs, be sure that he/she is fully vaccinated (finished with his/her puppy vaccine series). This will give them the best chance at fighting off any potential infections in the environment. I hope this is helpful!

Hey so in a couple of days We (my family) will be driving 2 hours away to a breeders house to get a 8 week old golden retriever puppy! I would love to know what I will need to bring for the puppy and if I should be aware of anything before the trip?
A collar and leash would be a great idea! But know that it takes time for puppies to get used to a leash - I just want her to be safe! A small carrier if you do not plan to hold the puppy the whole trip. Usually the breeder will tell you what kind of food that Ginger has been on so you can purchase some ahead of time. If you want to switch the food, gradually mix them together to transition her to the new food over 2-4 weeks. Ask for any records of shots or dewormers that the breeder has given so you can take them to Ginger's first vet appointment. I recommend a checkup with a vet within the first few days to test Ginger for intestinal parasites and any obvious congenital problems (like a heart murmur or abdominal hernia). Some puppies can become car sick, but it should wear off within a few hours of being home. She may also miss her litter mates and be sad for a few days. I am bringing Pete home next week, but I still have to introduce him to my two other dogs. My other dogs are an eight year old fixed female lab and a two year old fixed female lab. The two year old hasn’t been socialized much. What would be the best
I would recommend walking your two current dogs for a big long walk (30-60+ minutes) to get them tired out a bit. And then having them meet Pete out in your neighborhood at the end of your walk. One person should have your two older dogs, and one person should be walking Pete. Start out walking parallel on either side of the road and slowly get closer and closer over 10-15 minutes until they are walking next to each other. Don't actually encourage them to interact, just walk and distract them with treats if they seem overly interested in the puppy. End your walk at home and take them all inside. If they show a lot of interest in the pup, use treats to distract them or separate them. Keep allowing them to interact while supervised until you are comfortable with their interactions. Is it safe to take our puppy camping (Joshua Tree) after is second round of vaccinations? We will keep him on the leash and only walk fire trails (nothing off trail). Is there a risk of Parvo in the desert?

Is it safe to take an 8 week 4 day old puppy RV camping?
I would think that the main concern would be exposure to other dogs and areas where potentially unvaccinated dogs have been. At this age Brooks is still susceptible to parvovirus. If there are not a lot of dogs where you camp it may not be a concern. It is also important for puppies this age to be socialized and introduced to new experiences so if you plan to do a lot of RV camping it would be good to introduce it early. You should make sure that Brooks is up to date on vaccines and that he is on a parasite preventative.
