My puppy threw up, ate it, and is lethargic. Should I take him to vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 19 days old | 46 lbs

My puppy was sleeping and then woke up to throw up. He quickly at the first part before I could stop him and then thre up again right after. This happened 5 hours after he ate breakfast. We went on a walk about 1.5 hours after his meal, then he napped, woke up to the throw up and has been sleeping since. Is this what is considered bile? Also should I rush him to the vet? He also threw up twice on 5/4 but it was a lot more in volume and had more un-digested food.

Poor Opie! This does not look like bile, bile would be fluid. It may be something he ate. Given his age and that he may be lethargic, I do think it's a good idea to take him into a vet now just to be safe. I hope this helps!

Poor Terry sounds very sick. I see that he's a young puppy as well, and I'd be concerned that he doesn't have all his vaccines yet. He could be suffering from parvovirus causing his symptoms. Other causes include a severe GI illness, eating something rotten or toxic, or a foreign body. He sounds sick enough to need veterinary attention now. Please take him into one immediately.

I would take Opie into a vet immediately. He's just over two months old, and he will not be fully vaccinated yet so my first concern is parvovirus. He could also have a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. Whenever a young puppy is both vomiting and having diarrhea, it's time to see a vet right away. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him. Best of luck.
