My dogs ate too many Purina DentaLife chews. Should I induce vomiting?

My two dogs got into a bag of Purina DentaLife chews and ate what I’m guessing to be about 10 total between the two of them. No idea how many each. One is a 35 lb 1 year old border collie, and the other is a 65 lb German shepherd who is 7 months. I’m worried this is going to cause GI issues. They ate them between 10-30 minutes ago. Should I induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide or do you think they will be okay?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about your dogs. That's not good! I would not inducing vomiting. This may not be enough to cause any problems, and I would just keep an eye on them. Rest them, avoid taking them for a walk, and don't give them any more food until the morning. Hopefully, they should be fine. I hope this helps!

Hello, there is no report or warning for toxicity of these treats that I could find. Looking at the ingredients, they also are not common ingredients associated with toxicity. You can call the ASPCA animal poison control line and inquire further information about these treats and see if they are indeed toxic or not. Additionally, you may visit your local emergency veterinarian to induce vomiting if your ASPCA reports these treats to be toxic at high doses. The number is (888) 426-4435. Hi, my dog ate part of a shoe (similar to a flip-flop, a plastic-like material) and swallowed it. I noticed it about ten minutes ago while he was still eating it–so far he seems fine and he's even playing with toys. He is a 1 year old Korean Jindo
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Mocha. I never recommend including vomiting at home because the substance used at home causes esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem. Plus, the shoe could become stuck in his esophagus, leading to a very serious situation. You can take him into a vet now to have vomiting safely induced with a shot, or you can chose to monitor him. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, anorexia, or lethargy, he should see a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

I gave Wallace a “long lasting” edible chew treat on Friday night. He’s prone to getting diarrhea whenever I give him anything new. So he had that through the weekend, but yesterday he didn’t devour his food like usual. He still ate eventually though
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are a few possibilities here. One possibility is that he has dietary indiscretion (upset stomach) which is causing him these signs. Another possibility (and more concerning) is something like a gastrointestinal obstruction causing him the signs. I would recommend a visit to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may take abdominal radiographs and consider symptomatic treatment to make him feel better right away. I would shy away from those treats in the future. Good luck and have a great day!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Ebi. Poor girl! More than likely, this will pass without problem. Do not induce vomiting, as these plastic pieces could do damage to her esophagus on the way out. Monitor her for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her poop. lethargy, or a loss of appetite, then I would take her into the vet. I hope this helps!

My dachshunds (11months and 3 months) got into a bag of jolly ranchers and may have at eaten some wrappers. Do I need to induce vomiting?
No they should pass ok. I would feed them so the wrappers get through the intestinal tract with the food. If they start vomiting or won't eat or do not pass stool the I would take them right in for an exam and X-rays. As long as they are acting normally it's fine to watch them and wait. Hello, and thank you for your question! It sounds like Sebra is a big dog, so the most I would expect is some short-lived vomiting and diarrhea. I would suggest not feeding her for about 8 hours after she ate the treats, then start feeding her small, frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and plain white rice. This is an easy to digest meal that will help clear her digestive tract. If she has persistent vomiting or diarrhea for 12 hours, then she will need to visit the vet, in the off chance that the treats have caused an obstruction in her intestines. Hopefully she will be just fine though! I hope this helps, and that Sebra does well!

What can happen if my dog ate 15 dentalife treats in one sitting?
This should not be a problem, however I would reduce his evening meal by approximately the amount of the treats. The worst that might happen is that your dog gets diarrhea or a tummy upset. If that happens, feed boiled white rice and white chicken for a day and then transition back to his normal food. Hide the treats on top of the kitchen cabinets!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Honey is very cute! If she chewed up the arm in to pieces she will likely be fine. If she swallowed it whole then it could pass in her stool, she could vomit it up on her own or it could becomes stuck and cause a blockage. It is best, if swallowed whole and it just happened, to take her to the Vet right away and have them induce vomiting. We do not recommend hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. Signs of a blockage are vomiting, not eating and lethargy. I hope this helps!

I have 2 large dogs (110 and 100 pounds). One or both ate about 5-6 Reeses Peanut Butter egss sometime today (or possibly yesterday but I think today). They are acting fine. Do I need to make them vomit?
This is not enough chocolate to cause toxicity unless your pets have an abnormal sensitivity. Check the ingredients to make sure there is no xylitol as this is toxic to dogs. If xylitol is present, they need to go to the veterinarian right away for further decontamination. While you may not see any adverse effects, eating candy can result in vomiting or diarrhea. Watch both your pups very closely for any adverse effects and have them seen by the veterinarian if needed. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello. I am glad that Precious is doing well, but never induce vomiting in a choking dog. It is very dangerous to do so because she could inadvertently inhale the vomit into her lungs & this will result in aspiration pneumonia. Very nasty & dangerous.
