My dog hasn't pooped, has orange jelly bloody stool. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 5 months old | 5 lbs

Dr.Melanie, BVSC, MS- Is it okay if she doesn’t poop until Monday, it is now Saturday 12:00am. Her vet appointment is on Monday at 4:00pm. Any idea on what caused the orange colored, jelly-like stool consistency with little bit of drops of blood?

You don't want to see them go longer than 48 hours without pooping, which should put you at Monday. It could something Cosita ate causing this poop, it could be an illness, a foreign body, or it could be trauma to her GI tract. The vet should hopefully be able to diagnose the cause.

If Cosita had poor that was kind of like diarrhea, then you can see a period of no pooping for a day or two afterwards. That may be what is happening here. Do have her seen by a vet on Monday, and hopefully she will poop again soon.
