My Pomeranian is throwing up. Does she need an emergency vet now?

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 4.5 lbs

I have a 1 year old Pomeranian and she woke up and vomited her food up (dark brown, could see food in it) and then has thrown up a couple more times a white foam. She seems discomforted and pooped where she normally doesn’t poop. I am going to take her to the vet first thing in the morning but am trying to figure out if I need to take her now.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Darcy. Poor girl. Signs that you need to take her now include vomiting a lot in a short space of time (i.e. five times in five to 10 minutes), vomiting water, not drinking water, having diarrhea, or being very lethargic. If she doesn't show any of those signs, then you can wait to take her into the vet in the morning. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. I would suggest to monitor Lola at home for the next 2-3hrs. Please, do not offer her anything to eat or drink till 11pm and then try and give her small amount of water. If she drinks it and keeps it down, you can offer her small amount of bland food (for example cooked piece of chicken). If she eats it, you should offer her more bland food and water in the morning. However, if she continues to vomit or passes liquid diarrhea, you should take her to your local emergency service tonight. Vomiting in such a young puppy is usually related to gastrointestinal infection, worms, food indiscretion, feeding errors.

Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Bambi evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. Good luck!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Luna. This is a medical emergency, and she has to see a vet now. I see that she isn't spayed and this behavior can be a sign of a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Your only option is to take her into a vet immediately. Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is possible that Ciroc ate a little too quickly or greedily, causing her to vomit. However, in puppies, vomiting can be caused by parasites and dangerous viral infections. I recommend keeping an eye on Ciroc for continued vomiting, loss of energy/appetite, and diarrhea. If any of these signs occur, she should be seen by a vet ass soon as possible. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Eve! I would with hold water and ice chips for 4 hours. If she still vomits when that is stopped or when you resume the ice chips then she should see a Vet today or first thing in the morning. Puppies of Eve's age can get dehydrated quickly if she isn't holding anything down. If she stops vomiting continue doing small amounts of water and ice chips. Try not to feed her for 8-10 hours after the last vomit. Feed a bland diet if boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. Again if the vomiting resumes with feeding she should be seen. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, foreign body, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/table food. I hope this helps and I wish Eve a speedy recovery!

My dog was throwing up last night, I have him some water and mixed in some rice with his food and when I went to check on him this morning he had thrown up so much that it covered the floor of his kennel completely. Should I be taking him to the vet?
Poor Diablo. Yes, I would recommend taking him to the vet if he is vomiting such a large amount. There are a number of things that can cause vomiting, so your vet can decide if it is something serious or not. Hopefully Diablo just needs some medicine to stop the vomiting. Good luck! My shepard started having diaherra yesterday morning then 2 normal stools today now diaherra again. She's eating, drinking and playing fine. It's 1:30am here and she just had diaherra in 3 spots, no blood no rancid smell just like normal poop smell
A few bouts of diarrhea is not an emergency, particularly in the absence of chronic vomiting or other clinical signs and a normal temperament. Considering switching to a bland diet after a 12-24 hour fast, something like boiled chicken / hamburger and rice. If this helps resolve the issue, switch back to the puppy food after 2-3 days. If the diarrhea does continue or the vomiting becomes more frequent, I would not wait until Saturday to have her checked. There could be something serious going on such as an infectious / inflammatory disease process or a gastrointestinal foreign body. In the meantime, consider monitoring her home by checking her gums for pinkness / moisture, her skin for normal elasticity, and her temperature (99.5-102.5). Hope this helps you make your decision.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. In general, if Bella is mostly herself attitude and energy wise, it can likely wait until morning. I would offer her water in another 2-3 hours. I would NOT feed her anything for at least 8 hours. At that time, a small amount (1/2 cup) of the mix you describe is great. Make sure she keeps that down for an hour or two before offering another small amount. If at any time Bella: -continues vomiting - has pale gums - becomes excessively lethargic - stands and pants or dry heave and seems uncomfortable - has a belly that looks bloated or feels firm -collapses - has ANY other signs that worry you It’s time I head to the emergency vet IMMEDIATELY. Hello. If this has been ongoing for several hours & she has vomited multiple times, then I would consider having Kreacher seen by your veterinarian tonight or as soon as possible tomorrow. The biggest concern is dehydration, so you can try to give her a couple of teaspoons of water or broth every hour or so. If she feels like drinking, but vomits afterwards, replace her water with ice cubes to lick on. Absolutely no food until tomorrow. But you should have her seen to find out why she is ill & start her on the appropriate treatment soon. Hope all is well & thanks for using Boop by Petco.
