My recently neutered dog is scooting and nipping his bum. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

I adopted a dog two weeks ago who was neutered shortly before I brought him home. He has been acting super weird the last two days like either his bum or the area where he had the procedure is bothering him. He keeps scooting on the floor and kind of nipping at his bum area. He’s having normal vowel movements and the procedure area doesn’t look irritated. Should I be worried? He seems so uncomfortable!

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Boris. It could be his bum area is itchy causing this behavior. This may be due to intestinal worms or his anal sacs may be impacted. I would have him seen by a vet for this in the morning. I hope this helps!

My dog got neutered a week ago and his scrotum region looks bruised. He also likes to scoot when we are out on walks and starts whining trying to pick himself.

I got my dog neutered when he was 7 months old he is now almost one and about a month ago we noticed a red bump where his stitches are and he drags his bum to scratch it. It is not near the anus you have to lay him on his back to see it.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to know what this may be without an evaluation. I suspect that this is likely unrelated to the neuter per se and this is likely due to an itch possibly secondary to allergies for example or perhaps there may be an infection going on. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to evaluate him and determine what may be going on so that he can be treated accordingly. Good luck!

My dog has been nipping at and nipping the area where his testicles are supposed to be, for a couple of days. We recently moved to Georgia and it rained on Saturday so he got a little dirty but i figured after i bathed him today he'd stop scratching
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like local irritation/inflammation. Given that you have recently moved to a new place, it is possible that this is due to allergies and unless addressed, this will continue to happen. In the meantime, you can bathe him with a medicated shampoo you may obtain from your local pet store containing chlorehexidine which may help improve a superficial mild infection. You can do this twice weekly. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. In the second, it looks a bit swollen, but it may be the angle and the way he is laying down. Some redness is normal, yes. As for the pooping, he may be a bit constipated. Feed him canned food and add water to it to see if that helps. He may be scooting because his behind is itchy, which can be due to something like anal sac impaction or intestinal worms. Give his vet a call to let them know you are seeing these signs, and they can let you know if they want to see him. I hope this helps!

Neutered yesterday + scooting his but + whimpering.Pees fine but hasn't poop till morning. Tries to walk but sits down right away. Is this normal?
Pain after neutering does occur, and your vet can give you pain medication for him if they haven't already. After neutering, some dogs can be tired and want to rest a little more than usual. Keep an eye on the stitches where the surgery was done, and make sure they don't become red and swollen. Do not let your dog lick the stitches. Your dog likely didn't poop until this morning because they weren't allowed any food for 12 hours before the surgery, so they wouldn't have anything to poop out. Butt scooting can also indicate parasites, so if his worming isn't up to date, I would get worming tablets from your vet. If the incision site becomes red, swollen, and warm to the touch, I would contact your vet right away for an appointment. It is also okay to give your vet a call if you are concerned about your dog being in pain, and see what options they can give you for pain relief.

Scoots butt on ground - not often. Deworming again with Pancur. Vet took care of anal gland. Should I change diet or consult local Vet again? Stools are normal.

Hi there. Jack may be suffering from allergies. Allergies can be due to food and environmental allergens, so he does not have to be infested with fleas to be itchy. He could also be having problems with his anal glands or biting at himself because of pain. I recommend taking him to the veterinarian so he can get a full check up. The vet will probably be able to give you some medications or recommendations to help Jack feel better. Hope this helps!

What are these red bumps near his privates? I was inspecting his neuter wound tonight and found these red bumps on his right side. They are not on the other side. Do we need to go see the vet tomorrow?

However, if this does not improve, have Peanut evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment as anal sac expression may be indicated as this may be due to anal sac impaction or infection.
