How to stop my cat from peeing in the same spot outside the box?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 years and 10 months old

My cats keep urinating in the same spot!! It's really starting to smell. I've washed, scrubbed, used all sorts of lotions and potions. But they keep doing it. They will use the litter tray, but only once after it's been changed. They come in doors to urinate. No health concerns, regularly checked. I've tried ammonia neutralisers. I clean every time they go. I'm at my wits end. This has only started to happen in the last 8 months.

This sounds behavioral to me but could potentially indicate an underlying urinary problem. I would recommend placing the litter box in this area and see if this helps and also provide more than one litter box. You can also add calming diffusers to the environment to see if this helps. I would recommend Feliway. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
