Puppy's jaw swollen and bleeding. Is it broken? What should I do?

I just got this puppy from a lady online. When I got to her house his face was bleed. She said he fell but his whole jaw is swollen. Is there a way to check to see if his jaw is broken?

Oh my god, that is awful! Poor Rocco. You need to take him into a vet immediately for x-rays. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Poor Xarina. This sounds like she had an initial puncture wound that has now turned into an abscess. This not only should be drained using sterile procedures through your vet but she will also need to be placed on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicaiton. This cannot be managed at home unfortunately. If you cannot get it your vet until morning, then placing a cold compress on the area for 5-10 minutes may help some. I would then allow it to drain on its own because this area is likely very sore and also you have the potential to cause transfer of bacteria into nearby vessels, which can cause sepsis if you don't follow up right away with some type of antibiotic or internal flush (usually under sedation). Letting you vet properly care for this on tomorrow is the best option for Xarina's care. There are many regular vet hospitals open on the weekend, so google search for some in your area. I hope that she is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Best of luck at the vet on tomorrow

Oh my. This looks like a pretty serious injury. Your poor fur baby needs to see your local vet to have this wound managed well. The only thing you can do over the counter is to flush the wound with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water and then sterile saline daily. The vet will investigate this area to see if any stitches or staples need to be placed and also get your poor baby on oral antibiotics (ie Clindamycin) and anti-inflammatory medicine (ie Rimadyl). Without proper closure and antibiotics, this wound will likely not heal well. My dog ha this on the side of he's face it was bleeding I'm not sure how he done it or what it is please help I've cleaned it with warm water and cotton wool should i take him to the vets
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Based on the pictures it appears that Rocco may have either an open wound or a growth of some kind that has started oozing. I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine if he needs stitches, etc based on what the underlying cause for his lesion is and to start any treatment (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory) that may be needed. My dog is a toy poodle and she's bitten by one of my bigger dogs.....her lower jaw is lose.....i took her to the nearest vet...the vet did dressing for my dog....i need advice...now she is still bleeding and she is also uncomfortable.....
She needs to go back to the veterinarian for xrays of her jaw if it is that loose. I would be concerned that it is broken. She also need to be re-evaluated if she is bleeding and uncomfortable. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Poor Rocky. Please do not give him any human pain medications as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Feed him canned food or soften his dry food with water before giving it to him. Have him seen by a vet first thing Monday morning.

My 10 week old puppy was attacked by another dog. No open wounds, but had some bleeding that almost immediately stopped from the nose. She has swelling around her eye socket and severely bloodshot eye. Minimal eye fluid came out and it was light pink
Your puppy looks like it is in serious pain. The eye also looks involved and it is possible the other dog bit your puppy behind the eye lid, which could be a reason for the blood from the nose. It would be best to have your puppy seen by a veterinarian preferably tonight. Brandy will need an exam to verify there is no eye damage, fracture of any of the facial bones. She will need prescription antibiotics, and pain medicine. This will likely swell up seriously and may also impede her breathing if there is an injury to the respiratory tract in the head.

My dog has a broken jaw, and I was wondering is it possible for her to get it repaired? We let her out to use the bathroom and she wondered off but when she came back her jaw was hanging and missing teeth
Your dog needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. A broken jaw is very painful and the vet will be able to determine the extent of her injuries by taking X-rays and appropriate course of action. It is possible that surgery could fix it. It is very important that Lacey be seen and get her started on painkillers to keep her comfortable (as prescribed by your vet)

I do think Rocco should see a vet immediately. The fact that he is sleeping more as well as moving slowly and won't open his eye all the way tells me something is wrong. He's likely in pain.
