My small dog ate moldy food. Why is he vomiting and pooping blood?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 6 years and 10 months old | 7 lbs

He ate part of a moldy pot roast. He’s pooping liquid, puking chunks but acting normal and keeping water down. He just pooped a little drop of blood and I’m worried... he’s a little dog

I suggest you do the following: 1. No food for 6-8 hours. Water is OK. 2. Give ONE dose of Immodium. You will have to use the liquid (1mg/7.5mls) as the tablets are too large for him. You can give him 1/4 teaspoon. ( https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Anti-Diarrheal-Loperamide-Hydrochloride-Mint-Flavor-4-fl-oz/22211158 ) 3. After the fasting, you can then start feeding small amounts of a bland diet every few hours. Bland foods like: scrambled eggs, plain rice, plain pasta, boiled chicken or turkey, human baby foods (meat flavors). No butter, oil or spices on the food. 4. Also, start him on a probiotic made for dogs. No human products. You can buy them at any large pet store. I would give it for a minimum of two weeks. 5. If the diarrhea continues longer than 24 hours after starting this protocol, or if the blood in the stool continues, or if he starts to act otherwise ill, he will need to see a vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
