Cat still in pain after vet visit for constipation and aspirin?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 13 lbs

Cat is very vocal and hissing. I was at the vet earlier where initially I thought his hind leg was the problem, but after x-rays, it had show he had feces blocked. Doctor gave aspirins and a laxative to help. Did the veterinarian miss something? Cat is still in pain.

There are no x-rays attached, so I can't see if the vet missed something on that or not. I am very surprised the vet gave you aspirin for Poncho. It is highly toxic to cats, and should never be given to them. I would not give him aspirin. If you are worried the vet missed something, have him seen by another vet in your area for a second opinion.

Since the source of your cat’s problem has not been determined, it is not a good idea to try to treat her with over the counter drugs. It would be best to have a veterinarian examine her to see what is going on, even if that means taking her to an emergency after hours clinic. Have a male cat, 15+yo, 6.5 lbs, bad teeth, hip issue doesn't walk well. Can I give him (baby) aspirin to alleviate discomfort?
I wouldn't recommend it, because aspirin has a low margin of safety in cats and can cause some severe problems. It is also not good to give this class of medication if she happens to have any kidney or liver problems. It's best to have a veterinarian evaluate her and prescribe the necessary pain medication. They can also help with any other issues she may have; such as the bad teeth. Hi! My cat jumped off of a shelf earlier and appears to have hurt her leg. She won’t walk on it and meows when she uses it. Can we give her aspirin or something else?
Poor Mavis! No, do NOT give aspirin or any other human over-the-counter pain medications, as these are extremely toxic in cats. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can get over the counter that would be safe to give her. If she's holding up the leg completely and/or seems really painful on it, then I would recommend having her seen tonight at an emergency clinic for an exam and possibly x-rays. If this isn't possible, then I would take her to your regular vet tomorrow morning to be seen if she's still limping.

My cat is constipated and uncomfortable. We saw the vet yesterday and she gave an enema and laxatives for the next three days. He pooped a bit after the enema. Is it normal for him to still be in discomfort?
Poor guy. Unfortunately yes he will be uncomfortable for a few days, because the hardened feces likely irritated his colon and rectum area. Also if the vet had to manually evacuate his colon, which isn't uncommon, then this can cause irritation as well. Also with cats if they are constipated for too long, the colon will actually expand and become more elastic making it even harder to go potty the next go-round. So it is important to recognize when Smokey is having constipation issues right away to avoid having his colon stretch (megacolon) which could become a permanent problem for him.

My cat has been constipated for a few months and throws up regularly, I've noticed a lot of weight loss in the last two weeks. He even throws up we he drinks water sometimes. His appetite is still good, I caught him yesterday tasting his litter sand.
Without examining Ace it would be hard to determine what is going on, however if you feel that the exam was poor, additional testing such as bloodwork to check kidney values, or an X-ray to see what's going on inside can help give you and your vet more information. Gum disease can cause pain and may cause problems with eating and drinking, and kidney issues can also cause vomiting and changes to bowel habits, so it is possible. Continuing with your vet's prescribed treatment plan may help to get Ace feeling better. If he does not improve, worsens, or you see new symptoms appear it is best to let the vet that examined him know so that they can make adjustments to his treatment plan and get him feeling better.

It may be an abscess or bite wound. Ideally, Patches should be examined by your veterinarian. An abscess should be lanced drained and flushed. Antibiotics, as well as pain medication, may be indicated after. Do not give her any more aspirin. Cats are very sensitive to aspirin since they do not metabolize like we do. It can cause gastric ulcers and may prolong bleeding time. The drooling may be due to nausea from gastrointestinal upset. Be sure to tell your veterinarian when you gave the aspirin and confirm the dose given. Cat is spitting up white foam substance and is squatting trying to have a bowel movement.Meowing as if in pain.
Your cat could be severely constipated and the straining can make him nauseous. For severe constipation, your pet should be seen by a vet. Hard stool building up in the colon stretches it out of shape, and it also causes stretching of the muscles around the anus, causing perianal hernias that trap the collected feces, effectively making a plug. Your pet may need more than one enema and even manual extraction of the feces in order to relieve this episode. To help avoid this in the future, you can add Miralax to the food. Miralax is a very gentle, easy to give treatment for constipation, available over the counter at any pharmacy. The dose of Miralax is 1 tsp per 50 lbs mixed in with food once a day. You can also add a tablespoon of vegetable or olive oil to his food once daily, or add a couple of teaspoons of canned pumpkin (not pie filling) to his food daily.

my cat gets constipated like once a week. like discomfort, meowing, sometimes throws up until she eventually poops. the whole ordeal usually lasts about half an hour to an hour. but if happens like weekly. should i take her to my vet for this?
Poor girl. I would absolutely recommend taking Ariel to your vet for this. Constipation in cats can be managed with treatment if caught early, but if it goes on for a long period of time without treatment, it can lead to megacolon (permanent dilation of the colon) which will require stronger medications that have to be given continuously. My cat is constpated. Stool right there but straining without results. Vomited twice from straining. Had good BM yesterday. Gave oil goo from pet store.
Poor Eddie! Before doing anything else, make sure that Eddie is urinating normal volumes in the litter box without straining. Urinary obstructions in male cats can easily be mistaken for constipation because these cats will strain in the litter box, go in and out of the litter box, vomit, and sometimes vocalize. It is extremely important to assure that he is urinating normally without straining because urinary obstructions are a life-threatening situation that require emergency veterinary attention. If Eddie is urinating appropriately and does not have a bowel movement at home tonight, you should take him to the vet in the morning. The vet will be able to examine him and may need to take abdominal x-rays to determine the degree of constipation or stool impaction. Based upon those results, the vet may need to perform an enema or provide Eddie with prescription-based stool softeners. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

My cat takes 81mg aspirin every 3 days for pain from a leg deformity. I just gave him his aspirin 1 day early by mistake. Will he be ok without emergency intervention? He is a 3 yr healthy domestic short hair.
Yes, Reznor will be fine. The reason for dosing aspirin every 3 days is that cats metabolize aspirin slowly, so we do not want to give it every day long term. Some vets will give aspirin every 2 days, but generally every 3 days is safer. If giving aspirin every 3 days become difficult to keep track of, there are some newer pain medications for cats that are a little safer and can be given daily, so that might be something to talk to you vet about in the future. Certainly, if Reznor has any vomiting, diarrhea or is not eating normally, I would contact your vet, but he should be fine receiving his normal dose a day early. I hope that was helpful.
