Why is my dog shivering, whining, and her back legs seem weak?

Hello my dog has been shivering and trembling and whining the last past two nights she has regular bowel movements she's going pee but when it's time to go to bed she doesn't want to go upstairs and she acts like her back legs don't work.

It sounds like Bella may be in pain. If she doesn't want to go upstairs, I suspect she may have pain in her back, hips, or hind legs. Rest her tonight, and have her seen by a vet in the morning. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. If she is in pain, thee vet can prescribe her safe pain medication.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Bella! I would just let her rest tonight if you can't bring her to the Vet. I do not recommend giving her any human OTC pain medications because they will likely interfere with what your Vet may want to prescribe in the morning. If Bella has a bloated abdomen or starts trying to vomit but doesn't produce anything that is an Emergency and can not wait until the morning. Possible causes are: Lyme disease affecting her joints or an immune condition affecting her joints. She could have strain or sprain her muscle, bones, or cruciate ligaments or hurt her back. You can try to take her temperature but if you can't take her to an Emergency hospital that information won't change what you can do at home. I hope this helps and I wish Bella a speedy recovery!

My dog is shaking and he has difficulty walking with his back legs, what this can be?
It could be that his back legs, hips, or spine are painful, and that's why he's shaking and having trouble walking. I would rest him tonight, no running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. Then I would have him seen by a vet in the morning for a physical exam, lameness exam, and x-rays. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms and can treat him for it. Please do not give him any human pain meds, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

My dog jumped off the coach this morning an started helping an when ever her back half like her legs, hips etc she yelps in pain an she’s shivering an not moving unless I pick her up but then that hurts her aswell. Why??
Poor Belle! It sounds like she injured herself when she jumped off the couch, and she could have hurt her back, hips, or back legs. It is concerning she is not moving, and that tells me she is likely in a lot of pain. Because of that, I advise you to take her into a vet today. You do not want her to stay in pain, and unfortunately you cannot give her any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. Having her seen by a vet today is in her best interest. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I went to stroke my dog earlier and as I reached down to her back right leg/hip she started wining a lot as tho she was in a lot of pain. She seems as tho she is limping a bit and that it is stiff but unsure - what do you think could be wrong or what
Poor Bella. If she is older and seems stiff she could be suffering from arthritis. If she is younger, then she could have injured herself playing. For older dogs, I always recommend a joint supplement. Dasuquin or flexadin are good products you can try. This is a long term supplement and will take a few weeks to get in her system and work. I would also rest her. Do not let her jump, run or play. If you have to you can confine her to her crate or a small bathroom. I would not give her any human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. If she continues to seem painful, I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet will be able to localize the pain, take X-rays if needed, and give her some pain meds to make her feel better. I would also talk to your vet about whether or not she needs to lose weight as this can definitely slow down the healing process and make arthritis worse. I hope this helps!!

My dog seams to be walking funny on her back legs stretching the out and looking lick shes in pain
This position can be a sign of a stomach ache or abdominal pain. This can be from many things including constipation, an intestinal blockage, stomach ulcer etc. please monitor if she’s eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally. If not then please bring her in for an exam. They will check her over to see if they can find the reason for these symptoms, and may recommend abdominal X-rays and lab tests. I recommend having Holly seen by a vet to determine where her pain is coming from. Due to her breed and your described pain symptoms, I'm concerned that she may have a back injury such as IVDD (intervertebral disc disease), in which case she should be put on anti-inflammatory and pain medications right away to control any swelling that might be occurring around her spinal cord. Do not give her any medication, as there is nothing safe over-the-counter for dogs and anything you give her could interfere with the recommended treatment at the vet. In the meantime, the most important thing is to minimize her activity and keep her quiet. Don't let her jump on/off furniture, take her outside only briefly to go potty then right back in, carry her up/down stairs, etc. Hope this helps and hope she feels better soon!

my dog is shaking a lot and is vomiting, what can a gave for pain?
Unfortunately nothing, many human pain relievers are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I see Bella is unspayed, and I would be concerned that her symptoms are caused by a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. It could also be she has a severe GI illness, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, foreign body, pancreatitis, or she has eaten something rotten causing her symptoms. I think she needs to see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

It sounds like Bella may either have a problem with her heart causing her to tire easily or she may have a problem with her lower spine causing her to be painful in the back end and her legs to sway. Unfortunately neither of these could be diagnosed with blood tests. Radiographs or even advanced imaging such as echocardiography or MRI would be needed to determine what might be going on here. You may want to consider a consultation with a veterinary neurologist and/or cardiologist. You can find one in your area on www.acvim.org.
