Why is my dog lethargic, won't eat, and vomiting foul brown liquid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 170 lbs

My dog refused to eat her food. She is lethargic and she vomitted brown liquid with fowl smell. What could this indicate? Thanks!

Poor girl. I can understand your concern here. Lots of things unfortunately can cause vomiting, lethargy and inappetance such as pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, or even a condition called pyometra (infected uterus) just to name a few. The next best step to finding out the underlying cause is to take Cheezy to your vet for baseline bloodwork to check her organs. This will help us better understand what is hapening internally so that we can devise the best treatment option for her. If your vet is not open on the weekend, then its best to take her to your nearest available vet. Until you can get her in, its best to offer her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken OR lean ground turkey and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat and keep it down. I hope that your pet Cheezy gets better soon! Best of luck and take care. : )
