My dog is shaking severely. When should I see an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

My dog has been having shaking episodes occasionally for years, but in the past few days they have been daily and seemed more severe. I was reading about white dog shaker syndrome, which seems like it may match her symptoms. I will try to take her to the vet as soon as possible, but I was wondering how urgent it is; should I go to the emergency vet tonight, or is sometime in the next few days okay?

Poor Lily. The answer to your question depends on how she is doing otherwise. As long as she is eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, and doesn't seem overly distressed, you can take her sometime in the next few days. If she's not eating, not drinking, and/or seems upset or in pain, take her into an ER vet. I hope this helps.
