My cat keeps sneezing on and off for a month. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old

Bit worried about my cat. He will go a few days where he will sneeze a couple of times then he will have a few days where he will be continuously sneezing and not too sure why. Just wondering if this could be serious? It's been going on for about a month now..

This could be an allergy and it could be something causing irritation in the nasal passages. It is also possible that Shearer has a viral infection such as the herpes virus, which is common in young cats. I would keep an eye on this and most of the time these viral infections self resolve. If there is any green eye or nose discharge, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian.

This is not normal and I recommend to have little Moseby seen by his veterinarian. Sneezing can be caused by a few things and viral infections and allergies are common. The doctor will try to determine the cause based upon physical exam and may recommend checking a white blood cell count. There is a supplement for cats called lysine which may help. Kittens take 250 mg twice daily. This can help with viral causes. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
