Looks like it maybe was an abscess and the tissue over the top died and now the raw tissue is evident. I would clean the area with a betadine / water solution (mix both until a light brown color) and cleanse the area twice daily to help prevent infection. If there is no improvement, then I would have this looked at by a veterinarian for further treatment / diagnostic recommendations.

    Hi and thanks for you question! This looks to me (at least from the pictures) like a bite wound or puncture wound that has become infected. Keep in clean with a mild cleansing cloth or 3% hydrogen peroxide until you can visit your veterinarian. They may need to clip and shave the area, clean it thoroughly, and place the cat on antibiotics. The cat may need to wear a cone over it's head to prevent it from licking at the wound until it heals.
