My cat's claw is gone, no pain or bleeding. Does he need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 5 years and 2 months old | 17 lbs

I was clipping my cats claws and found that one of them is just gone. There doesnt appear to be any pain for him when I touch the area nor is it bleeding. I dont know how long it has been like that. Do you think it will be ok left alone or does he need to be brought into the vet?

The nail has been probably traumatically removed. The tissues surrounding the nail bed does not seem to be swollen or discharging so an infection is unlikely and the lesion seems quite old anyway. At the moment only monitoring is needed.
