My 8-year-old greyhound has a bony knee lump. Is it osteosarcoma?

Hello - my 8 year old male greyhound has a boney lump that appeared earlier this week. Its in his knee area - back leg. He isn't limping and doesn't seem in pain. I'm worried about osteosarcoma. I've been watching him for now to see if it gets any bigger or if I notice a lump. If that happens I will take him to the vet for an x-ray. Do you think it could be osteosarcoma or could it be something else ? Thanks

I would not wait to take Norman into a vet to see if it gets bigger. Any suspicious lumps needs to be checked out by a vet promptly. It may be osteosarcoma, and if it is, the sooner he's seen, the better for him.

I'm concerned that this lump has tripled in size in such a short amount of time, and the color of it as well. Otis should go back to the vet for this to get it checked out, and I would take him into his vet this weekend or first thing Monday. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I hope this helps!

Noticed a firm lump on my dog’s right hind leg. Went and look through her photo and found that the lump was there 1.5 years ago (pls see pic attach). Didn’t really change much, still about the same size. I’m worried about osteosarcoma but it’s been 1
Osteosarcoma is typically a very aggressive cancer so it would be unusual for the pet to be doing well one and a half years later. There are many types of skin masses including benign bone growth. I recommend to play it safe and to have the mass aspirated by your veterinarian. This will give you a better idea of what’s going on and if it’s something that will cause a problem in the future or requires treatment. I hope this helps.

My dog developed a lump behind his right knee. It's about the size of a quarter and it wasn't there yesterday. He is a three year old neutered blue heeler mix who has had no previous health problems. How likely is it to be lymphoma?
I would recommend a vet visit. The vet can do a needle aspirate and take a look at the cells. While this may be a location for a lymph node it does not necessarily have to be lymphoma. Enlarged lymph nodes may be due to cancer, or inflammation or infection. Or it's possible it's not a lymph node and may be another type of mass or swelling. I recommend a vet visit to try to see what is swollen and why.

Hi just spotted a lump near my dogs knee cap, when I touched it its solid and doesn't seem to be attached but he wasnt keen on me touching it. Hes a big dog and doesn't show pain.
I would have this lump on Jake examined by a vet. It could be a cyst, a benign tumor, or potentially a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I'd recommend having Jake seen by a vet tomorrow to have the lump examined and diagnose so it can be treated as needed.

My dog trixi has a lump on her back knee. Shes had it for a while. I haven't noticed it bothering her but I do want to know what it is so if you could help that would be great. She has also been getting sick often for the past few days.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can also see why she has not been feeling well. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!

My dog is 12. At beginning of March he started with a small lump, photo on right. In last fortnight it has got bigger, photo on left. He is displaying no other symptoms, he does limp, he’s not constantly licking at at it etc.
I don't see any photos attached to this post so I am not able to see the lump. If the lump is getting bigger than you should have him examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then your vet can recommend a treatment plan. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or your vet may want to remove the lump.

My dog has had an inflammation to his leg as seen below - it has drastically changed size within the past 2 weeks. Is this a cause for concern?
Yes, this mass needs to be checked by your vet. There is no way for me to tell you what it is just by looking at a photo but it looks pretty serious. It is definitely a tumor but what kind it is, I don't know. I also don't know if it is malignant or benign. The best option is to have it surgically removed and then sent off for a histopathology.

Oh no, I'm so sorry Harvey has taken a turn for the worse! Yes, it is possible that this is cancer, and if he has a swollen front leg and can bare little weight, I would be concerned that he is suffering from osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone). I would have him seen by a vet immediately to have his leg examined and x-rays. This will be very painful for him, and the x-rays can diagnose if he does have an osteosarcoma. Unfortunately, an osteosarcoma is a highly malignant, fast spreading type of cancer. Amputation of the leg is an option, and with amputation, the dog can have an addition three months of life depending on if the cancer has spread or not. I would take Harvey into a vet now. I'm sorry :-(

My dog is a 13yrs old and has lumps on his front legs like the elbow area and are getting sore looking but also has 2 big lumps on his chest area 1 of which looks to be getting bigger do you think they might be cancer
With any new lump or lump that is changing, it is always best to have your veterinarian look at them and a fine needle aspirated can be done to obtain a sample of cells. If these cells look suspicious of a malignancy, then your vet can recommend surgery. From the photos that you have posted, my guess is that these may be benign, non-cancerous masses. These can still cause problems, though, by bleeding and getting infected. I would schedule Max for an exam at your earliest convenience so that you and your vet can weigh the pros and cons of surgery since he is a senior.
