Is it safe to give my 19lb dog half a Simparica dose for 22-44lb?

I bought simparica for 22-44lb dog but my dog is only 19 lbs is it safe to give her a half of a dose

No, it's not safe to give half a dose. You can't be sure you are giving Sahara exactly half of the medication, and you could accidentally overdose her. I would return the Simparica, and get the correct dosage for her weight.

I don't recommend breaking these pills in half. Due to the manufacturing process, we can't guarantee that the drug is evenly distributed in the pill. So by giving half, you could be giving all or none of the active ingredients. It would be best to have the appropriate prescription for Rose.

Simparica has a wide margin of safety, but Abby ingested 4 times her normal dose. You may see tremors or convulsions within the next 24 hours. These symptoms are typically self limiting and, in safety studies, resolved without treatment. Ideally, she should be examined at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection followed by administration of activated charcoal to further reduce absorption. This is most effective when done within an hour or two of ingestion. There is no antidote for sarolaner (the active ingredient in Simparica) overdose, so treatment is largely supportive and symptomatic until recovery is complete. This may include IV fluids and medications to control tremors or convulsions if they develop.

Giulio is on simparica and missed his monthly dose for September. Is it ok to double up the dose or should we just give him his regular dose for October?
Hi there. Just give him the regular dose, giving two doses at once isn't safe and since you are giving him his regular dose he'll be covered for fleas/ticks/mites for 35 days. I hope that helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Definitely get PYY the smaller size. It's never recommended to try to cut a larger dose of the medication in half because you could either under dose your dog, or accidentally overdose them. I hope this helps!

So I have a puppy and an adult dog I gave the puppy (6/7 months) the adult simparica trio drug and the adult one the Puppy one without realizing it. My mom had them out of cases and I thought they were the same it was the 11ib one and the 22-44 pound
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. You should monitor Purl for symptoms of vomiting, lethargy, lack of appetite, tremors, problems with balance. If you notice any of these signs, you should get your puppy checked by your local vets right away. According to the manufacturer's data the symptoms are NOT likely to develop after ingesting this dose. You should give your bigger dog another tablet to get the right dose for 22-44 pound weight (that should be 24mg of sarolaner, moxidectinum 0.48mg and pyrantelum 100mg).

Is Simparica safe for my dog
As long as Jasper is older than 6 months of age and weight more than 2.8lbs, it should be safe. By your information, that appears to be the case. Lethargy and gastrointestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea) are the most commonly reported side effects.

Simparica is a once a month flea and tick preventive medication and giving it daily will soon overdose your dog and possibly cause severe health problems and death. So please, give Simparica only as instructed on the label. A one time application will likely be enough to kill the mange. If not, ask your vet to prescribe Bravecto (one-time application) for your dog. You can give Omega 3 fatty acids daily.

With medications in tablet form, you can certainly cut them in half and still be sure that you are giving half of the medication. Unfortunately with chewable medications (like Nexgard, Heartgard, etc.), splitting a dose in half does not ensure that half of the medication will be given. The active ingredients are mixed throughout the chews, but not necessarily in a uniform way. To answer your question, no, you shouldn't give Frosty half of a Nexgard. Instead, see if you can exchange the product for the correct size. It's likely that your vet will be able to prescribe a single dose while you sort out the exchange process. According to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment." You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

I have 2 dogs that are 30lbs. I was wondering if it is okay to give them flea pills for a dog that is between 8.5-25lbs. The dogs are about 16weeks old

Second, if you do not give medication for the correct weight, it will likely be ineffective.
