How long after getting fixed can my dog safely go swimming again?

How long after getting fixed can my 6 month old American bull dog go swimming and play at the river? His incision looks clean and is healing perfect. It's been 5 days since he got fixed

Great question! Jordy cannot go swimming until at least 10-14 days after getting fixed. This is when the incision will be fully healed and any stitches will be removed by the vet or dissolved if they are dissolvable. I hope this helps!

In general, it is advised to restrict a dog's activity by preventing running/jumping/rough play for 10-14 days after a spay surgery to help reduce the risk of surgical complications. Keep the surgical site clean and dry by preventing splashing in mud/ dirt/ water, and take Molly out (on a leash) for short potty breaks only. I hope that helps!

After how many days can i give my dogs a bath after being neutered and spayed ?
For routine bathing, I recommend waiting at least 10-14 days, or until the skin appears visibly healed. If Princess has managed to get herself quite dirty prior to this, you may wipe the area clean with a soapy wet towel (mild hand-washing dishsoap such as Dawn works well) - it's important to keep the area around the incision clean while it's healing, but I would wait until the incision is totally healed before immersing her in water. My dog was spayed 12 days ago. She has some dried blood around her spay site (she has a vaginal infection a vet is treating with antibiotics) is it safe now to clean the area with a damp cloth?
We normally recommend waiting 2 weeks after surgery before bathing/getting the incision wet. If you are just cleaning the area next to the incision with a cloth this would be ok, but I wouldn't clean the actual incision itself for two more days to play it safe.

My female dog was spayed. They closed with dissolvable stitches then glue. How long does it take to go away?
Dissolvable sutures under the skin can take 6 months or so to fully dissolve, but will begin to slowly break down within the first few weeks. There are many different suture types, and all break down at different rates. However, the incision itself should heal within 10-14 days of the surgery and the glue should break down around this time frame. This type of surgical closure is quite common and most dogs can return to a normal activity level (including swimming and bathing) about 10-14 days after surgery. Hi, I was wondering if her spade stitches look okay? Today is her 10th day and I didn’t know if her stitches look dissolved yet so she can go outside and play without a leash.
Sophie's spay site looks good but the tissue will not be fully healed until 14 days so still no off leash play time. Also, check with your veterinarian. Most vets want to recheck the spay site at 14 days. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello, my dog was neutered on 1/22/18. He's had to wear a cone since and I wanted to take him to a doggy day care, where they do not allow cones and he will be around other dogs. Would this be okay or would you advise against it? Attached are photos
I advise my patients to keep the cone on and decreased activity for 10-14 days. Also, the picture looks like maybe he was a cryptochid with 2 incisions? I would recommend being on the safe side and waiting 2 weeks before play with other dogs. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

My dog has stitches from being spayed 4 days ago and she jumped in the creek and they already looked like this will she be okay?
The incision looks ok at this point but water can potentially introduce infection into the incision. Miley should be confined and leash walked only for at least 10 days after surgery. No jumping, no swimming, no running off leash. Monitor the incision for redness, swelling or discharge and let her vet know if you notice any of this.

Is it ok to give my dog a bath 8 days after she’s had a surgery. She still has the stitches in.
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Molly. No, you do not want to bathe her while her stitches are still in as her skin is not completely healed yet. I usually recommend waiting about 24-48 hours after the stitches have been removed. If she has soiled her suture site, then spot clean the area with a damp cloth. I hope this information helps!

I have a good English mastiff and she is 8 yrs old , she was spayed 3wks ago after contracting pyometra. She has made a full recovery but I'm concerned walking her to much, she's a big dog so needs lots of exercise .
If she has made a full recovery and has had stitches removed it is likely okay for her to go on short controlled walks on a leash. I typically recommend waiting at least one month for the abdominal muscle to heal before vigorous exercise: ask your vet when they would recommend starting to increase her activity level.

How long does it usually take a male dog to recover from being neutered?
Hello. Barring any complications, recovery is pretty quick, usually a day or so. But we do recommend taking things easy for 10-14 days to give all the tissues a chance to heal. There is also a small chance that a male dog may have some residual sperm in his reproductive tract that could potentially get a female dog pregnant.
