Why is my cat sneezing and sleeping so much? Is he sick or in pain?

My cat has been sneezing a lot for about two days and all hes done is slept. I dont know whats wrong and i dont know how to help him. Is he in pain? Can I do anything

I would take Fluffy into the vet first thing in the morning. He could be suffering from a respiratory infection or allergies causing the sneezing and lethargy. He's showing you he's sick by sleeping all the time. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can prescribe medication to treat it. Best of luck.

Yes, Fluffy could definitely pick up a respiratory infection from the outdoors. I'd have him seen by a vet in the morning. If he does have an infection, the vet can prescribe medications to treat him. Keep him indoors tonight so it's easier to get him in a crate to go to the vet tomorrow. I hope this helps!

It's not normal for a cat to sneeze a lot, and this sneezing could be caused by allergies or a respiratory infection. I would have your kitty seen by a vet in the morning if the sneezing continues. The vet can diagnose what is causing the sneezing and what treatment may be best for her symptoms.

This is a classic presentation of a cat with an upper respiratory disease. They usually do have a fever early in the infection and will feel bad. They also tend to avoid eating and drinking, because the congestion in the nose does not allow them to breathe properly. You can help the congestion by giving him a steam bath. There is a link below that has good information about how to do this and other helpful tips for this condition. http://www.wikihow.com/Help-Your-Cat-Breathe-Easier It's best if you can get your cat to a vet within the next day or two. While these infections are often due to a virus, they can become complicated with bacterial infections, which will make things much worse. Hi, It could be cat flu if he hasn’t been vaccinated. If not he could have inhaled something irritant. Is there anything new in the environment ? It is difficult to advise without checking him over. Cat flu is extremely infectious but other conditions could be foreign body inhalation, allergy, nasal polyps or bacterial/fungal infections. If he is lethargic I would suggest to have him checked over.

No, this isn't an emergency, and it's fine to take Dex to the vet in the morning. He's likely not eating because he can't smell his food. The sense of smell is very important to cats, and if they can't smell their food due to congestion, they won't eat. I recommend gently warming up really smelly wet food, such as sardine or fish based to try to tempt him to eat. It's a great idea to have him see a vet first thing in the morning, and I will give you some things you can do at home that may help in conjunction with treatment from the vet. First, you can try starting Dex on an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight. If the sneezing persists so frequently, I would ask your veterinarian about this possibilities. Allergies do not typically affect attitude or energy level so if he is not as affectionate as normal, he may have an infection. I hope this information helps!

I am sorry to hear about Luna. Since she is lethargic and has a decreased appetite, I would recommend she have an examination by her vet. If he's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. If his symptoms get worse or continue, have him seen by a vet.
