My dog is lethargic, won't eat, and coughing blood. What should I do?

My dog has become very lethargic, won't eat and is coughing up blood. He is approx 3 years old and a cross between an American akita and Staffordshire bull terrier

Coughing up blood is a medical emergency and must be assessed by a vet immediately. Traumatic wounds to the throat, lungworm and other respiratory conditions can all cause similar signs and can be life threatening if not caught in time. It is likely sedation and xrays will be required if nothing is identified on an oral exam
