The cost of spaying a rabbit will vary between areas and clinics within an area, but the RSPCA lists a price of $275AU for spaying a rabbit. I would call local clinics in your area to get an exact price. I hope this helps!

It is recommended for pet rabbits to be spayed because of the very high risk of uterine cancer in this species - around 50% of intact female rabbits are estimated to get uterine cancer, which is a huge number. It's true that wild rabbits don't have surgery to be spayed, but they also have many more health problems and shorter lifespans than pet rabbits :) The cost to spay a rabbit will vary depending on what part of the country you live in and which specific clinic you use, so I would recommend calling around to some local vets who do this surgery to ask about costs.

I’m think about getting my female rabbit spayed but I don’t know how much it would be and how risky it is. I do have plans to talk to my vet soon but I would like some background knowledge first.
Hi there! Bonnie is so adorable!! love the pictures. I can't really tell you about prices but I can talk with you about spaying Bonnie. I have done quite a few. Rabbits tend to do just fine as long as they are kept warm during surgery and in recovery. I have lost rabbits when they get cold. That's one of my most important protocols. These guys will have an abdominal incision just like cats and dog. Everybody has their own anesthesia medications as well. My advise is find a veterinarian in your area that is very familiar with rabbit anesthesia and surgery. They are not difficult to spay, but you want an experienced veterinarian who is familiar with the exotics. They recover very quickly and go back to normal pretty quickly. Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Spaying female rabbit involve giving general anaesthesia (either by injections or by inhaling anaesthetic gas) and performing surgery to remove the ovaries and the uterus. The abdomen is clipped once the bunny is asleep, then a small incision on the abdominal wall is made and finally the ovaries / uterus are removed. There are usually 3-4 stitches inside the abdomen and some stitches to close up the abdomen and the skin. Most of the rabbits are back to normal very quickly after the surgery (within 1-2 days), so hopefully Oreo will also recover rapidly. You will need to make sure she is kept warm at home, she eating as normal and passing normal stools. She will likely be prescribed a few days or pain killers to go home with.

The fact that Alice is an adult rabbit now does not increase the risks when you have her spayed, It is a good idea to have her spayed due to the uterine cancer risk and also avoiding spraying, which females sometimes do. So you can have her spayed now, preferably at a veterinary office that treats a lot of bunnies.

There is no special qualification for a rabbit savvy vet, you just need to try and look for a veterinary clinic that treats rabbits, often you can find this service in exotic veterinary practices. male rabbit neutering is very simple and can be done by most vets, spaying of females is a little more complex and i would recommend having it done by a vet who is experienced in rabbit surgery.

If I don’t spay my rabbit what is the circumstances?
Many people have pet rabbit and choose not to spay or neuter them. The consequences of this are very similar to leaving one's dog or cat in tact; it leaves them open to risk of uterine infections and certain cancers of the ovaries and uterus. It also increases their likelihood of developing mammary gland tumors later in life. Mammary tumors are quite common in rabbits making this the most likely consequence of not spaying. More obviously, an unspayed rabbit can become pregnant and require additional care as a result. Hope this answers your question.

Spaying is always a good idea as it will prevent accidental or unwanted litters. A spayed doe may also live a longer and healthier life. If Midnight is almost 10 years old though, age may be a factor in determining if she is a candidate for anesthesia. whats the qualities of spaying your rabbit? my cousin spayed her rabbit and he lets her hold her bunny and doesn't nip like my rabbits
Generally spayed/neutered rabbits tend to be less aggressive as the sex hormones are eliminated. Aggression and dominance do also have some behavioral component so the surgery alone does not necessarily mean that EVERY rabbit that gets it done will gentle down. In general though, they become more tame. I hope this helps!
