My dog yelps when pooping, but his poop looks normal. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 6 lbs

My dog is yelping when he poops, the poop is normal no objects, blood or change is color or firmness. He’s still very active and eating and drinking. I’m not sure if I should take him to the vet?

It's not normal that he's yelping when he's pooping, and it could be that Harley's anal sacs are impacted causing him pain when he poops. I would take him to the vet to have this examined, but it's not an emergency. If your vet is open on Saturdays, take him in tomorrow if possible. If not, make an appointment for him for next week. Best of luck, I hope this helps.
