My cat got out, has a red, growing, hairless leg patch. Infected?

I have a cat that is approx.1 yr she is an indoor cat she can stick it out every once in awhile well about a week or two ago she got out and when she came back I noticed that she had a square-shaped patch of hair missing on the back of her hind leg and it was really red a week later now it has grown to a rectangular shape up her leg it's still red and I would like to know what I can do to make it better it kind of looks like it's starting to get infected but it is grown double in size up he leg

It could be that Cittie go into a fight when she was outside, and she does now have an infected wound. It's concerning that it's grown double in size. Give your a vet a call first thing in the morning to make an appointment to have her seen. If that is infected, she will need to be treated with antibiotics. You should also consider that if she got out and was in heat, there's a very good chance she could be pregnant. You can discuss spaying her with the vet during the appointment for her leg. This looks like an infected hot spot. First you have to get her to stop licking it or it will never heal. I would put a cone collar on her to prevent this. Since it is so large and looks infect d I would have your vet look at it. Your vet will be able to give her some antibiotics and possibly an anti-inflammatory like a steroid to help prevent the itching as it heals. Also your vet will be able to provide you with a topical medicine to help speed healing. I hope this helps!

Poor cat! If the wound is growing in size, it's time to go to your vet. Problems such as allergies to parasite bites, fungal infections such as ringworm, infections of the skin, abscesses/sores etc can all be potential causes which is why a vet visit is needed to determine the cause, provide treatment such as pain meds and antibiotics, etc. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry may help as well as preventing your cat from licking, but if he is acting ill and hiding away he is likely already painful or worsening so needs care.

Sounds like a bite wound or a puncture wound from something Skye could have snagged herself on while out and about. The wound needs to be explored, flushed, and possibly drained. Skye will very likely require some antibiotics in order to get better, as well as anti-inflammatory medication to control pain and/or fever if she has one. I would get her into the veterinarian in the morning at the very latest so that treatment can be instituted. The longer you wait, the worse the infection can become. Hope this makes sense.

Hello I can't tell from the picture how deep that wound is but it does look infected and there's underlying tissue and possibly muscle exposed. I recommend takinh your cat to see a veterinarian as she could be licking at the site when you're not watching and causing further infection. It may need to be closed or the vet may decide it should stay open (with some infected wounds closing can cause an abscess to form) and put her on antibiotics and pain medication. She might also need an E collar to prevent her from licking the area further.

That looks like a bad bite and needs to be seen by a vet right away. Cats that go outside are more likely to get into fights with other cats, and these wounds can easily become infected. Your vet can clean and drain the wound, and provide antibiotics, pain meds and other treatments as needed.

My cat has wound on her right leg most likely from a fight with another cat. It seems like there is two small holes and a lot of fur missing. How can I treat it? Is it imperative to see a vet?
Unfortunately cat bite wounds can become infected very quickly and often there is further damage under the skin that isn't apparent from the outside. For those reasons I recommend your cat get checked out by a veterinarian as early treatment can prevent future complications such as muscle infection. In the meantime keep the area clean and dry and keep your cat indoors. Do not give any human medications as they can be toxic to cats.?

My cat got into a fight
It looks like the wound is infected so she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She will need an antibiotic to help treat the infection. You could also soak her paw in a warm Epsom salt solution to help with swelling and infection. I am not sure what type of animal she got in a fight with but she might also need her Rabies vaccine boostered.

Today we noticed female cat(1 year old ish) has a (almost round) wound under her arm. It has some puss forming. Also noticed small patches of fur missing in random places on her body.
Poor LeeLou! I'm wondering if she's allowed to be outside, and if she is, it could be that she go into a fight with another animal. If she has a wound with pus in it, then it's infected and she has to see a vet for antibiotics. Ouch poor Ki! This looks like it could have started out as a small wound, bite, or scratch but eventually turned into an abscess which is why it is so much bigger now. Since it is getting worse and she is bothered by it, I️ would take her to your vet. She is likely going to need some medical care to clean it up and make sure she doesn’t need stitches. Also your vet will be able to provide her with some systemic antibiotics as I don’t believe that ointment is strong enough. I hope this helps!

Hi there! What you're describing sounds more likely to be a skin problem of some kind (allergies, etc.) vs. an actual wound or something more serious, although of course it's always hard to say without being able to see her in person. It does sound like this is something that should be seen by a vet, since skin issues in cats that are severe enough to cause hair loss and raw spots will virtually always need prescription meds to treat effectively. But if she's acting normal otherwise (eating and drinking, relatively active, no other obvious symptoms), then I wouldn't consider it to be an emergency. It should be okay to call your regular vet's office and get an appointment scheduled for her when you're able to, hopefully within the next week or two. :)
