My dog ate plastic from his crate, but seems fine. What should I do?

Hi, it looks like spock has chewed off the edge of the plastic part of his crate while we were out. It seems like he chewed it up into bits. I called our regular vet which told us just to wait and see but I'm still worried. Hes currently acting fine. It looks like he chewed off a good 6 inches in length of the part of the tray that curls outward. Gave him a little food to help pass it.

That was naughty of Spock to eat part of his crate! At this point in time, I agree with your vet to wait and watch. That would be my recommendation as well. This is something that can pass without problem, and I would give him half a slice of whole wheat bread now and with every meal. This may help form a ball of ingesta around the pieces of plastic, and cushion it as it passes. Monitor him for signs such as vomiting, blood in the feces, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy. If you see any of those signs, take him into the vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear that Spock has been having nausea and vomiting lately. Yes, it is possible that he still has more plastic or other foreign material in his stomach or intestines. Since he has been vomiting, it is concerning that he may have developed an intestinal obstruction from this foreign material. At this point, the best thing you can do is take Spock to his vet for an exam and he will also likely need abdominal x-rays to determine if an obstruction is suspected. Withhold food for the next 12-24 hours after his vomiting. I hope that all goes well!

My dog ate a small sharp piece of plastic. It was skinny too. I feed him 1 whole wheat bread. Should I be concerned?
If it was small and skinny, hopefully it should pass without problem. You did exactly the right thing by giving Jim a piece of whole wheat bread. I would continue to give him a slice of whole wheat bread with each meal, and the plastic should pass in about 72 hours. You may see some blood in his feces if the plastic sticks the GI tract on it's way out, and if you do, I would take him into the vet just to be safe, but I think it should pass fine.

My dog ate a piece of plastic plug.he vomited pieces of it .and has been pooing the black pcs.i have fed him pumpkin/banana/brocolli/yogurt to make him clear his tummy ..what else can I do ?he seems fine though
If he is acting normal with a good appetite, you can continue to monitor. If he still vomits or starts with bloody diarrhea, then you need to get him checked by a vet. There is nothing else you can give to help him pass the rest, but since it is small pieces hopefully he has already passed most of it

we bought this crate and i noticed this part is attached on the inside. we've tried many things to help him stop destroying/eating his crate but nothing helps. he is only in the crate if we leave the house. eating a tiny bit of this piece isn't as co
I think he is not likely to eat a lot of the crate, Spock is probably chewing the edges because of boredom. I would suggest that he is put in the crate after he has had a walk and ideally you have spent time playing with him so that he is physically and mentally tired. Something I found useful for dogs in crates was to stuff a kong with dog food, and then put it in the freezer for 2-3 hours then offer it to him. This should entertain him for a while. Best to try it first on a day when you will not be away for too long so that you can monitor that he does. Hope this helps !

I'm not a 100% sure but there's a good chance jake has ate abit if round plastic about the size of his eye. Is he likely to poo this out and how will I know if it is causing him any problems?
Oh no, that was naughty of Jake to possibly eat that plastic! This may be something that will pass naturally, and I would start feeding him four small meals a day instead to two meals a day to keep his GI system working more often to try to encourage this piece of plastic to pass. It can take up to 72 hours for this piece of plastic to pass, and I would monitor him for signs of obstruction which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and lethargy. Should you see any of those signs, I would have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps :-)

He ate the remnants of a small disposable cake pan out of the trash. Barely anything. Crumbs and some icing maybe. He’s 10 months old and about 70 lbs What should I do?
If he ingested the actual plastic tray it could cause an obstruction in his stomach or intestines if he ingested a large enough piece - if it was chewed up it probably wouldn't be as much of a concern. If there was chocolate or raisins in the cake there is potential for toxicity (more so for raisins than chocolate I'd imagine because it doesn't sound like there was much cake left. If it was just the plastic ingested I think you could keep an eye on him for the next few days and contact your veterinarian if you notice any vomiting, decreased appetite or diarrhea. My dog ate a whole pack of graham crackers and the plastic. Will she be ok?
Hi there. The graham crackers themselves should not cause any serious problems, although she may have some minor stomach upset if she isn't used to eating human food like this. The plastic is potentially more concerning - it may pass through just fine on its own, especially if she chewed it into pieces, but it's possible that it could become stuck in her intestinal tract and cause an obstruction. I would recommend monitoring her closely for the next 2-3 days for any signs of a problem. Symptoms of an intestinal obstruction would include repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements. If you see any of these symptoms, then I would definitely take her to the vet for an exam and x-rays. But as long as she is acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry :)

At this point, you can probably just monitor him and see how he does. We typically like to induce vomiting within an hour after eating the foreign material. Since he is acting fine and doesn't seem to be having problems then it may just pass through without a problem. You could call your vet and let them know that he ate something abnormal and make sure they don't want to examine him and/or take an x-ray. Hopefully, he chewed up the bag into smaller pieces and it will pass without a problem. Monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and decreased appetite.

You may be able to see it in the stool if the pieces are big enough. I'd expect that you would have seen it by now if you thoroughly checked the stool, but it's possible that it will take a few more days for it to pass. This is definitely a concern for causing an obstruction in the stomach or intestines, but there's nothing there's not much that can be done for this now. The only option is waiting to see if it passes OK. Normal GI transit time is 3-5 days for such things. During this time you would just be waiting to see if he has any signs of an obstruction. Signs of an obstructions are vomiting, not defecating, acting very painful/depressed and a decrease in appetite. If you notice these signs, then Finn would need to go to the vet immediately for emergency surgery. I hope that helps and all is well with Finn.

In my experience, yes - it's likely that this will pass through with no problems, but there is always a chance that it may get stuck and cause an obstruction. Signs to watch for would be repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having bowel movements. Problems would usually occur within 2-3 days, so if he's still acting normal by then chances are good that everything is fine. If you have any concerns, you can always take him to your vet for x-rays to check for a possible blockage.
