My cat has a red bump on her rear. When should I take her to the vet?

Hello! That bump looks a little swollen and red, and it could simply be a wound. I would clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep an eye on it. If the swelling gets larger, Chiky starts having trouble passing feces, she starts scooting on her behind, licking the area a lot, and/or you see pus, then I would take her into the vet. In that case, I would be concerned that the wound may be infected, or it could be something else causing the swelling such as infected and impacted anal sacs or intestinal worms. I am sorry to hear about your concern for Julia! If the area appears inflammed I would recommend an examination at her vet. We can get infected anal sacs that could result in a bulge/swelling on either side of the anus. A wound or unfortunately a tumor could also cause a mass/lump in this area. If the area doesn't seem too inflammed or painful, you could try monitoring it for a week or two. If it is not going away, is getting larger or starts to weep then a visit to the vet is recommended.

Good day. I have an indoor cat. He is aged 4 and he has a brother. I noticed that his bum is very red and swollen. Should I be worried or take him to the vet?
It sounds like he should go see the veterinarian. This symptoms could be caused by many things. Additionally, it may hurt him to have a bowel movement and then he might start going outside of the litter box. Best to get it taken care of early and quickly. why does my kitten have a bump on his butthole
Poor guy. The fact that he is so young, and the location of the bump, suggests that he may have unfortunately been bitten by an insect in this area. If he is not licking it excessively causing redness of the skin or seems bothered by it, I would leave it be for now and monitor it for the next few days to see if it starts to resolve on its own. If it seems irritating, then you can try applying a very small amount of Neosporin on the area and play with him for 15 mins to allow it time to absorb. Do not apply too much where he can lick it off and cause stomach upset. If it happens to not be improving after 4-7 days, then I would take him in to your vet to have him checked out so they can get a closer look at the area. Other possible causes is a foreign body with subsequent inflammation (granuloma) or an allergic skin reaction. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is not possible to diagnose this based on a picture. Possibilities include inflammatory disease, cancer, immune mediated disease, an infection, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may have to take samples from the lesions to try to find out. They Good luck and have a great day!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Reddish bumps on his anus could be a tumour, a polyp or wart, or a partial rectal prolapse. It is impossible to say for sure without seeing it directly, so I would recommend getting Simba seen by the vet within the next few days, or earlier if he seems in discomfort. They may be able to determine the cause just by observation alone, or may recommend a fine needle aspirate to pinpoint the nature of the mass. In the meantime, if he is licking or biting the bum area, I would suggest putting an e-collar (cone) on his head to prevent further trauma. Whats this red bump?
Thank you for attaching a picture of Leo's bump! It could be from an injury, such as him scratching his chin and accidentally cutting himself. I would keep an eye on it for now. If it doesn't go away in the next few days, gets bigger, there is pus from the area, and/or it starts to bother him, take him into the vet. Best of luck.

There is a one relatively big bump or blister on my cats tail near to the groin.Can you diagnose the disease?The bump is pure red in colour and hair loss is seen around the bump.
It is difficult to diagnose without seeing the bump but it could be an infection, cyst, mass, or an injury. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at it to determine the exact cause and best way to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or other medications to treat. Your vet can do a needle aspirate, if necessary, to help diagnose the cause of the bump.

I would continue to watch Mindy for the time being. If you notice the area becoming more red or if Mindy has developed any new symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, etc.) I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian sooner rather than later. Without seeing her anal area it is difficult to tell what is going on with her. If there is a redness/bulging around the rectal area it is possible she is experiencing what is called a rectal prolapse which can be seen in kittens who have diarrhea, often due to parasitism with worms or protzoal organisms. It is best to have the kitten examined to see if this is what is going on, or if there is another cause for what you are seeing. They can test the kitten for parasites and also help determine its age and whether or not it is ready to get vaccinations to prevent future illness.

The picture you provided is a little blurry but it looks like Angel may have some perianal dermatitis (infection and inflammation around the rectum and anus). This can happen if a cat is not grooming herself appropriately or if there is an infection in the anal glands. Oftentimes the hair needs to be clipped so the area can be thoroughly cleaned. The cats occasionally need antibiotics and anti-itch medication as well to help clear up the problem.
