My 6-month puppy won't eat/drink, has upset stomach. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 8 days old | 15 lbs

Should I be worried? My 6 month old dog doesn’t want to eat or drink water, he’s being normal other than that. He wants to play, he begs for human food when we eat, but doesn’t want to eat his food and he loves his food. Stomach is making really loud grumbling noises and stool is sometimes really soft but still has form. When we give him a treat he intends to eat it, he chews it and then spits it out. Those are also his favorite. What should I do ?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’d recommend that you NOT try to feed or force feed Odin and just continue to monitor him. Just like people, dogs can have upset stomachs from time to time for a variety of reasons. They, like us, will not want to eat during those times. The fact that he has not vomited and is otherwise acting happy is a great sign. I’d say pick up the food for the night and see if he’s interested in breakfast. If he does begin vomiting, especially excessively, becomes lethargic, or you have any other concerns, then I am more worried and a visit to the vet is in order. Best of luck to you and Odin!
