My cat has an old cut. Should I take him to the vet or let it heal?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered

Hello! I’m worried about my cat. He got this cut a week ago and I am not sure if I need to bring him to the vet. He is a stray cat that we have been taking care of for 3 years. So I think it might do him more harm to bring him somewhere he’s never been. he does not seem to be in any pain, he eats, drinks and pees and act as normal. Should I let it heal by it self or should I consider taking him to the vet? Thank you for you help. Best regards, amanda

This does look like and old cat bite abscess. I cannot really see whether the area is swollen. If so then it may be a good idea to take him to a vet to have it lanced. If it is not swollen, and just crusted over, then I think you can just leave it alone and observe it. If it appears to be a growth (cannot really see it) and expanding in size, it should be examined by a vet. Overall, I think you can just monitor it and should it start to bother the cat or turn red/swell/expand in size, take him to a vet.
