Puppy Parvo: How long for recovery & what to feed after not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 4 months old puppy (Local Indian breed) was diagnosed with Parvo virus 3 days back. The vet kept her on IV and antibiotics. Today is her 3rd day and she's still not eating anything but keeps looking for water. Is this normal? Also her diarrhea and vomiting is getting better. Vet visits her at home as we don't have animal hospitals in India. How long it usually takes for the puppy to get back to normal and what am I supposed to feed her once she starts eating?

Parvovirus is a very serious infection and it take at least a week for dogs to get better. Sometimes they have vomiting and diarrhea for 10-14days. It is very important that your puppy eats as soon as he keeps food and water down. Any high calories, easy to digest food will be good (for example, cooked chicken or turkey). If your puppy is reluctant to eat you should try and hand feed or even force feed him.
