Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 8 lbs
My mom had her pup neutered, he has a cut and suture on him penis. Is there any reason why they would do that ? He had no history of injury there before and had never had a male dog neutered before, so she thought it was normal. I've never seen this with our dogs. We're concerned and it's not healing well. Totally confused by this and mom's 82 and is worried for little Joey a morkey., Thanks for any help

Hi! I received the images you sent to the support team. The incision looks healed except for the white pustule which is either a suture reaction or an infection. The green line is a tatoo to indicate he is neutered if he gets lost. The location of the white pustule is the location of a normal neuter. Since it keeps draining and he is kicking I’d bring him to the vet for a recheck. I wish you the best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Can you post a picture of the penis and the neuter incision? The only thing I can think of is that maybe Joey was cryptorchid and had one retained testicle. If the testicle is not in the scrotum the Vet has to go in the belly or groin area to fine it. This results in 2 incisions. If Joey is acting fine then all is well and he will heal like any other dog. It may be worth while to call the Vet on behalf of your mom and just ask why. I am sure they will tell you why there is a stitch there. Please post a picture as I am curious. I wish Joey a speedy recovery!
