My dog has diarrhea and vomiting. Could it be from eating something?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 8 years and 5 months old | 7.5 lbs

My 9 y/o spayed Pomeranian has diarrhea and vomiting since last night. There was one solid stool overnight, now very liquid, and foamy vomitus on empty stomach. She often finds/eats roadkill dead lizards or toads, etc on her walks. She also looks for rabbit poop.

If she is otherwise acting okay then you could withhold food for 12 hours and then try a bland diet like boiled chicken breast and white rice. You could also add a probiotic, like Fortiflora or Proviable to her diet. If the vomiting and diarrhea continues then she needs to be examined and treated by a vet. Your vet can run some tests to help determine the cause and then prescribe medications to treat the vomiting and diarrhea. She may need an anti-vomiting medication, antibiotic, dewormer, etc.
