My vaccinated dog was exposed to parvo. Will my older dog be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My friend adopted a 3 month old puppy 6 days ago and this morning he was sick so I took him in and he tested positive for parvo. So after we took him back so he could get treatment I went back to my house, immediately put my clothes in the washer and went and took a shower but I had run out of body wash. I never was in contact with his vomit or feces, I just held him. My dog Kona is 6 years old and she had a parvo shot last year, and shes getting another on the 11th. Is she going to be okay?

It is not likely that Kona will get Parvo as Parvo mainly attacks young dogs up to about 2 years of age. If Kona had the full course of vaccination (2 basic within 4 weeks , and then the yearly booster) then she is definitely protected, But even if not, she should not get Parvo at this age,
