I have a 2 yr old Newfie that has mild patellar luxation. The surgeon wants to stabilize the knee before arthritis sets in with the TTA procedure. Is surgery really recommended at this time?

If Elise has a cruciate injury in addition to a patellar luxation, then surgery is likely indicated. The procedure mentioned will stabilize the knee joint as well as the patella luxation. Patellar luxations are divided in 4 categories based on severity. Mild luxations may be managed conservatively but a cruciate injury should be repaired, especially in a large breed dog. You always have the option of a second opinion. You can find a board certified surgeon here: https://online.acvs.org/acvsssa/rflssareferral.query_page?P_VENDOR_TY=VETS
