My dog's ear is bleeding from a bump he scratched. How to stop it?

My dog scratched a bump on the end of his ear and it’s bleeding. How do I get it to stop bleeding.

I would apply gentle pressure to the bump to stop the bleeding. Do not wipe the blood away from the bump as that disrupts the clotting process. Continue to apply pressure until the bleeding stops. I hope this helps.

Poor Arya. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.

Hi, I have an 8-week puppy whose ear was accidentally pierced by a (very slim!) jump ring. Didn't really bleed, but there is a bump on his ear. I put triple ointment on it, since he can't reach his ear. Anything else I should do?
Monitor for redness, discharge, active bleeding or odor. A minor wound may heal on its own. Keep the area clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent scratching or rubbing if necessary. If it doesn't appear to be healing, see your veterinarian for an exam.

I would recommend having Lily evaluated by the vet if this mass is getting bigger. any abnormal growth that is changing in size and shape should be assessed to make sure that it is not malignant. A needle aspirate may give your vet enough clues to determine what this is, or they may recommend surgical biopsy or removal. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and put pressure on it with a cloth or towel until the bleeding stops. Once there is a scab leave it alone since if you clean off the scab it will bleed again. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Misty.

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. This is likely secondary to her scratching at her ear. If the ears do not smell and there is no discharge in the ears, she likely just had a scratch that caused her to cut her skin with her toe nail. I would avoid any ear flushing until that spot scabs over and heals completely. If she continues to scratch at her ear(s) then I would have a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can possibly be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar is useful as well to avoid any scratching (as you have used). It's probably best to leave it alone for now. Ears tend to bleed a lot when they get cut, but it eventually stops and they don't bleed enough to be dangerous - unless he happens to have a clotting disorder. The more you wipe at the ear or agitate it, the more it will bleed. Also, hydrogen peroxide and other strong antiseptics can cause more damage than good, so it's best not to apply this to the wound. You can try cleaning the wound in 12 hours or so after the bleeding has stopped and he hopefully calms down. The first thing you should do is flush the wound using a syringe or other dispensing device with warm water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate water getting near their face. I recommend having someone help you with holding Cruise to make sure the wound gets flushed well. Infection is the biggest concern with these wounds; so after flushing, it's best to apply an antibacterial cream to the wound. In order to keep the wound clean, it's best

I would recommend that you have this little mass checked out by a vet, but I would not consider it an emergency. You could wait until Monday if your vet is not open. If Nala is scratching and causing it to bleed, you may need to have her wear an e-collar to prevent further damage. It's not an emergency likely but it may need to be addressed. For bleeding lesions, apply firm pressure for 10-15 minutes. You can use hydrogen perxoide to clean the area one time but don;t use it more than that because it can impede healing. After that, use soap and water to clean the ear if it gets dirty but otherwise leave it alone. You need to prevent Reese from shaking her head and traumatizing the ear. Sometimes and elizabethan collar can help.
